When Too Little Sleep Is A Good Thing What do you think about this? I stumbled across it because I've been awake for over 30 hours, and I decided to do some research about what is going on in my brain. Right now I feel very awake because I just went through a highly aerobic exercise session (haha actually it's Taiko Drumming). But anyway, even before I started killing this beer I felt wide-eyed. It seems like my brain kinda woke itself up after the 20-24 hour mark. I'm not sure when I'll get some sleep, because I actually have a lot of work to do (which is what started this whole thing). But yea, comments on that article? Any sleep deprivation stories (negative or positive)?
the last time i went w/out mass quantities of sleep, i got patterns on grass and carpet, and started seeing shadows. it freaked me out a little, but i know it was just flashbacks and demons
<~ ex-Nurse (HepC) Your body will sort of RESET itself, and you will catch what is commonly called a 'second wind,' which will allow you to function for another X amount of time, based upon your body's schedule. In fact, you will find it impossible to fall asleep after catching that second wind ~ unless you exercise, have sex, get a massage, take a steaming hot shower, well, get to a point that you can relax, not just your body, but your brain, also.
once i worked a whole weekend (starting on friday morning at 5) all the way around the clock to sunday afternoon at around 8 or 9 i don't remember now. but the time it would come in waves or winds Fyrenza said i think i went through 7 or 8 waves which was quite strange due to the fact that when i finally went to bed i slept through a day and a half of work. speaking of which i better get to bed before that happens again.
I don't really think there can be positive effects of sleep deprivation, largely because the body needs to have rest in order to repair itself. However, I have heard of something (I forget the name of it) that people have that causes them to not need a lot of sleep.
its called insomnia for people who have trouble sleeping and can easily run the next day off 4 or 5 hours... but for people like me its called chronic insomnia i only have to sleep every other night its my schedule.. and where normal people can stay up a whole day and be able to function i can stay up for 4 days and think nothin of it but the 4th day is really trippy i stayed up and after 5 i start trippin i remember one trip i thinkin there were leprechauns running around the woods and throwing shadows at me... it was actually a very nice trip everything... and all it took was no sleep
I'm gonna be resetting my WoW subscription soon and I plan on using that as a tool to keep me awake for as long as I can go. It should definitely be a journey... I mean... 3-5 days straight playing WoW and eating... I'm kinda scared.
you mean your life consuming, soul-destroying subscription? staring at a computer that long is going to cause your eyes to fatigue and hurt
I decided to do other things like dance with friends and play games and just have an all out hedonistic adventure.
I know it isn't good for me at all, but every once in awhile I quite like staying awake for 30+ hours. Nothing beats an all-night followed by another late night, that third or fourth wind rocks. Makes me feel like I've conquered sleep. Then when I do fall asleep, I'm knocked out for about 14 hours. I don't do it a lot, but it's kind of refreshing for me. Like how some people fast, I do a sleep fast.
