I have a can of black beans. I also have brown rice. I wanna make rice and beans, but I've never made it before. I dont have anything else, but olive oil and spices. What should I use, how should I make it?
haha, very. That's what I figure I would do if no one answered, but no salt, pepper and other spices.
what spices do you have?? if you have these, i'd be generous with the cumin and some red pepper, as well as garlic. if you have more, a touch of a few other things could be nice, depending on what they are. some salt and pepper would be nice, as well. you dont have anything else, though? if you have a little lime juice or lemon juice it would be good in it ESPECIALLY the lime cilantro would be amazing, too, if you have it but yeah, basically just cook the rice till its done, add the beans and cook until they're warmed up (rinse them first, of course) and then drain off extra liquid
do you have any bell peppers, onions, tomatoes (canned is ok in this case too)? cuz i got a dank black beans and rice recipe...slash found it on the back of a can
I was waiting for your answer I have lots of spices, definitely cumin and red pepper. I need to check on the garlic. I have a bunch of other things, cayenne pepper, thyme, I dont even know. I have a spice rack full of things and I cant think of everything that's there. I think I might have a tomato and green pepper, but I need to check. No lime juice and no cilantro. I know it's sad.
no cilantro or lime juice IS sad! but hey, thyme or some other green herbs -might- be good in small amounts. basically when i'm just winging it i open the container and smell it, then smell the other stuff, and if it smells like it would go together well, it usually does. i would expect good things from adding just a touch of thyme or sage maybe a bell pepper will DEFINITELY make it nicer! maybe cook the rice, and then sautee the pepper with the beans and seasonings in the olive oil, and serve on top of the rice. a tomato would go nicely in it, too with the thyme or sage or whatever you use, be careful not to add too much. just a little, and before you're done cooking taste a little, and if it needs more add just a little more...but if you add too much, you can't take it back out!
i dont know all about it....im not great....but i like to cook, its fun last birthday my parents wanted to know what i wanted for a present, and what i wanted for dinner.....and were sort of surprised that i wanted the present to be me getting to make dinner and they could just buy ingredients for me, and i'd make us a big supper
YUM. We have very similar tastes. Those all are my favorite spices. I don't use much salt ever, but love the black pepper too!
I love to cook too, but I'm bad with spices. I never know what to put on what so I just use salt and pepper to avoid fucking anything up. awwwwwwww, so cute
oh man, believe me it was a feast!! skewers....onion, all colors of bell peppers, chicken, beef, lamb, grape tomatoes...all drizzled in olive oil than liberally covered in a dry rub made mostly of garlic and rosemary... a big salad with lots of feta cheese and kalamata olives, a homemade dressing based on plain yogurt, along with pepper, garlic, a little salt... pita bread with a big dish of homemade hummus.... i cant remember what it was, but i'm pretty sure there was one or two other things i made, too.... oh, and two kinds of spanish wine, some cava and some red wine it was glorious so aura, hows the dinner? {edit: you beat me to it! how did you make it, then??}
I love skewers (pinchos in Spanish), my mom used to always make chicken ones with bell peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes. I think she used rice vinegar, salt and pepper. They were yummy. But the whole dinner you made for your parents sounds yummy. I love Mediterranean food. I like it because everything feels so fresh and light and healthy. I sauteed the bell pepper and the tomato in olive oil. Added cayenne pepper, cumin, thyme and bay leaves, added the beans, some hot sauce (I like my food spicy ) Then when the rice was done I mixed it all together, not only was it yummy, it looked so pretty. John wasnt hungry and I kept offering it before I made it, but I made enough for both anyways, he didnt want to try it, but said it smell yummy and then when I was gonna put the leftovers away, he was all like "woah, that looks amazing, leave it right there" and ate it all
