I thought that other monster thread was about monsters like Godzilla. I kinda liked that idea. So...who's the greatest grr-ARRR monster of the 20th century?

    I still say Godzilla.

    Other nominees:
    - The Creature from the Black Lagoon
    - That lame-ass thing from Cloverfield (whatever, early 21st century totally counts)
    - King Kong? Yeah, he counts
    - The Thing
    - The Loch Ness Monster (I checked Wikipedia; it was "discovered" in 1933.)

Note: Dracula and the Yeti were invented before 1900.

Ha! Flying spaghetti monster is a good one.

Zombies is a tough judgment call. According to Wikipedia, ancestors of the word "zombie" were around as early as 1871; but the earliest reports of voodoo zombies were from 1937. And I think we'd all agree that zombies as we know them now were basically invented by the great George Romero in 1968.

If they count, they might beat Godzilla.

If a bunch of zombies fought Godzilla I bet Godzilla would win.

(And if someone can set that fight up, please do.)

Gawd, you're so Western-centric. What about the zombies of 28 Days Later, huh? Okay, not real zombies. Okay, Peter Jackson's Dead Alive. Australian. Michele Soavi's Cemetery Man: Italian. Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2: Europe. Shaun of the Dead: UK.

If there's one thing to never forget, it's that zombies can come for you anywhere. There's nowhere to hide from zombies.

I have no idea who that dude is, but he does look scary.

the romero-esque zombies of film and books were created in the 20th century, and only very loosely based on the previous ideas of magically created zombies from certain traditions. the 20th century concept of a zombie, the infected zombie, really bears little to nothing in common with the previous ideas associated with the word. they are an entirely seperate type of entity and a creation of the 20th century, and they TOTALLY count. and one of the most terrifying aspects is that an outbreak would easily and rapidly become a world issue as there would be very little that could be done to contain it unless action was taken very rapidly

Nesta is right. There are no funny guys named Tom Green.

I'm also officially convinced about zombies. Zombies are IN.

no, humor is empirical. i have a witometer i use for study of such things, and when applied to the comedy stylings of tom green, it clearly indicates he's about as funny as an empty can of tomato paste.
