    everyone is gonna say
"wash every few days with bronners and just leave it alone! every hairtype will dread naturally given enough time!"
( and dont use wax! may as well light your self on fire if you use wax=))

If Dr.b's isnt for you (made my hair feel sticky and waxy) then try washing with baking soda then rinsing with apple cider vinegar. It's way cheap and leave my hair feelin' AWESOME.

I just use any natural shampoo... bronners isn't necessary unless you happen to like using it. Look around the site though, there's lots of information about forming natural locks. For natural dreads just keep em clean and separate after you wash them. That's all.

I just did my really fine, silky, straight hair and we sectioned it with rubber bands at the roots, backcombed/ rip & tore, and waxed the ends with like a mini m&m's worth.

Ew. Get the wax out. Even if its just a little it might do harm. If not its gross and uneeded anyways.

months? it takes *years* for some hair types. but this is part of why natural dreads aren't for everyone

As I also have thin, straight hair I wanted to ask a question. Someone stated that you should wash your hair only once every few days, would be be horribly hindering if I did every day with Dr. Bronner's? If I even miss a day of shampooing my hair gets greasy and oily, which to my knowledge slows down the process.

read around more here, these questions have been answered many times. people will tell you that the reason your hair gets greasy is it is used to being washed every day. begin a new cycle washing every 2 or 3 days. it will be greasy at first maybe but eventually it will adjust.

I never ripped, but I was messing around with a lock of my no longer dreaded hair and ripping did a pretty awesome job. if you wanted to use that to section, add beads to keep em sectioned.... Again, this was mere fiddling:
for those who have backcombed or ripped, what do you have to add?
and instead of wax, if you have a need to be ultra presentable (job interview, family wedding/photos,etc) aloe will hide frizzies for a day. As will coconut oil, which could make really young dreads too slippery.
I have a buddy with several years old dreads who uses coconut weekly to keep from having the rope feel. His dreads are silky to teh touch, but very solid. (straight Caucasian hair)
