self-explanatory. . it's not that i don't think i need it, but i don't really know how to go about asking without sounding like i'm fishing for drugs. has anyone gotten a prescription with the intent of getting one? what did you tell the doctor to get him to believe you truly needed it? anyyy and all advice is wanted, thanks!

Go in and say you think you have ADD. Talk about it. Don't try to do anything. If you really have it, if the doctor is worth anything they'll be able to tell. Then the medication will come. If you don't, you shouldn't take it. Not only for your own sake, but for the sake of people who need it just to function.

Sorry if I sound mean, but I hate that ADD has become a joke because so many people fake it to get drugs. Yeah, adderall will make anyone better at whatever it is they're doing, but ADD is a real and debilitating disorder and it's shitty that it isn't taken seriously, and that people who aren't able to function at the most basic level because of a biological disorder are looked at as drug fiends and attention seekers.

If you really think it's neccessary, I sincerely hope you get the help you need. ADD fucking sucks.

Yeah I have ADD and when I was younger I was prescribed to Ritalin then as I got older I tried Adderall. It's been probably almost 6 years since I've taken either though.

i'm not really sure if i need it. i've been reading through some adderall threads and alot of them say if you had add then you wont feel the 'speed' effects of the pills? because i tried it last night for the first time, actually yesterday around 5 pm and i havent slept or eaten since then and its 330 pm the next day. i'm not really sure if i want to pursue taking it because i feel terrible today but i'm hooked on lortabs and i remember thinking last night how adderall blows lortabs out of the water. i guess my question is how do i know if i need it/ is it worth it if i dont?

I don't know if I buy that if you really have ADD adderall won't feel "speedy" to you. Yeah, I'm not running around cleaning stuff when I'm on it, I'm basically hyperfocused and calm, but it still feels "speedy". It's a drug, you're gonna feel at least somewhat altered no matter what.

I try to never take it past noon, because if I do I won't be able to sleep at night. So that's normal.

If you felt like it really benefitted you in some substantial way, you're really the judge of whether you need it or not. I would say it's definitely not worth it if you don't need it, though. It's fun for a while, but once you realize it's something that has to be a normal part of your life, something you have to constantly manage, it can be really overwhelming.

There are way better ways to get high. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get high... ADD meds are just a crappy way to go about it, from multiple angles.

I agree...and it seems like yuo liked that feeling...which i hate...i just got off some crazy shit called vyvanse (literally almost had a heart attack from that stuff)...there is tons of stuff out there that is not amphetamine based that helps with ADD and doesnt give you that cracked out feeling

i agree, however when i first tried it i loved it but after abuot a year the feeling got old...and my mood was negatively influenced by that stuff as well, and I know I'm not the only one for which this is true.

    I agree.
It really changes when you realize you're going to be on it all the time.
The fun of taking drugs, I think, is the novelty of it, the juxtaposition of perceptions. Eventually, whatever it is, you just want to come down. Sometimes I love for everything to be really intense, emotionally charged, epic, and bizarre. But not when I have to have dinner with relatives, or talk to a cashier, or act normal around friends. But it's a matter of weighing what's worse; taking it and dealing with the weirdness, or not taking it and living in a debilitating fog? I'd rather take it and feel everything, whether I want to or not, than not take it and have no control over how I feel or how I spend my time.

I've tried too many pharms :(. I'm just gonna stick to Ritalin and Adderall because I feel like I have some sort of grip on them. I took Strattera for a while and it was indescribably bad.

It's really a balance thing. Blech.

I don't know why it affected me so differently. I think I'm just extremely vulnerable chemically, or something. But it made me physically sick, to where I was puking, and I kept having these weird 15 second mini-seizures, hallucinations, and an overall feeling of being totally off kilter.

I'm glad it's working for you though :).
I've just had too many experiences with pharmaceuticals. If I'm going to take something, I want to know exactly what it is and what it's doing, and I want it to be out of my system as quickly as possible, just in case.

i had a prescription for awhile... i loathed it. i mean LOATHE. if you really aren't fishing for drugs, i suggest lisdexamfetamine, (f on purpose), it's just like adderal except there are not nearly as many side effects.

I talked to my doctor about it and told her I have problems concentrating both in school and everyday life(constant day dreaming ect), and always seem to have to move around. (jimmy leg/ finger drumming)
The list goes on and I really do have these problems so I'm going to go get tested on Monday for it. I think thats how its done now is you have to be tested for the disorder before you get the script.

That doesn't sound like ADD to me. I don't know... maybe I'm being negative.

I just think if you want the meds, it's easy to convince yourself you need them when you don't. Maybe you do, but your description sounds like the perception of ADD from a person who doesn't have it.

I'm really sorry if I'm coming across judgmental...

Its no problem at all. Its hard for me to put into words what goes on in my head and that was the best I could do. I could have it I could not but I would like to know.

    ADD/ADHD IS A JOKE.

Every human has ADD/ADHD to some degree, there are some who express none of the symptoms at all, and some who do. The only reason we have come up with this asanine diagnosis about ADD is because we dislike energetic kids in the classroom. Ritalin, Adderall, and many other ADD/ADHD drugs are merely cash mines for pharmaceutical companies. I mean look at the symptoms:

    1. Inability to focus
    2. Fidgeting
    3. Short term memory lapses

I can't think of a kid who doesn't have all of those. When I was growing up, I didn't want to sit in a classroom and have some old teacher try to lecture me about how they think information should be presented. In fact I am forced to sit there and take in the boring BS they force down your throat at school? Towards the end of my high school career I was skipping school, not doing homework, etc, etc, etc. Not because I was a trouble kid, but because every...single...grade had failed to capture my attention.

Thank god for college, where the classes are interesting, the chicks are hot, and the drugs are cheap.

Don't blame people who want drugs, blame the pharmaceutical companies, doctors, and teachers for coming up with a bullshit diagnosis for treating kids who are energetic.

FYI, I don't have what you all would call ADD/ADHD but it's pretty damn easy to fake the symptoms which I'll probably end up doing.

As for OP: I do not have an Adderall script, but just from doing a bit of reading it becomes clear that it is extremely easy to fake the symptoms.

Tell your doctor/psychiatrist some of the things that you honestly do:

    • Read a paragraph in a textbook and suddenly realize you have no idea what you read
    • Miss beginning sections of sentences when people are talking to you
    • Periods of time in class when the information goes in one ear and out the other
    • Have a hard time memorizing directions, sequences of numbers, etc

Hell, maybe I do have ADD, but I honestly don't care. The only drug needed to make me do well in school is having an interesting and insightful teacher for once.
