I get sore throats a lot. I'm not much of a green tea drinker, but I think just about any hot beverage with lemon and honey is supposed to be good for sore throats. Also, my father swears by gargling with warm saltwater. It's kinda nasty, but it does seem to help. I also recommend checking out a natural remedies book as they tend to have a lot of information on non-medicinal and natural treatments for common ailments.

However, if you are having serious troubles swallowing or any troubles breathing, I advise seeing a professional. It could be a throat infection, tonsilitis, an allergy (causing your throat to close up- not pleasant!) or something quite serious. In this case, it's better to err on the side of caution.

Sorry I couldn't provide more information. I hope you're feeling better soon.

if the throat is really really sore, almost impossible to swallow

    you could have tonsillitis

    go and see the doctor

open up and see whats happening at the back of the throat - you will see pustules all over the back of your throat if you have tonsillitis. you'll probably need panadeine forte.

I heard thyme helps, make tea of it with lemon and honey, all three are natural antiseptics

I have always used slippery elm bark tea (not the powder...bleh) and a loznge that has horehound in it...a couple of the herbal commercial ones do.
