Im looking to relocate to Colorado...but don't know anything of the state. I want a gorgeous view from the porch, so definitely the mountians are a must!

I don't want a completely rural and isolated town but I don't want a big city at all...so no Denver or anything like it. I'd love a town that has a small college in it, but not a necessity. (I just love a small liberal college environment.)

I love snow and the cold and and a place where I can :cheers2: with the locals, and I love warm summers! I also am hoping for a place with an artsy and cultural knowledge and a folksy feel and definitely a pet friendly area! (I have a pitbull and 2 staffordshire terriers, so places where they're allowed is rare almost!)

What are some ideas for towns?

That sounds nice. I think you could find something close to that in Colorado. I think about moving to Oregon sometimes. You're so right about the view of the mountains. South Carolina has its pros and cons but I would like to end my journey in another state.

I would say probably Fort Collins is probably for you. Boulder is good, but sadly is definitely becoming to yuppified for my tastes. I would also look into Alamosa. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but its got a college and a few hip folks around. Durango would be another cool place. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

Yeah! I actually looked up Durango and it definitely seemed nice. And also Alamosa...in fact, my husband is a teacher and a wrestling coach, and the HS in Alamosa is number one in their division in the whole state! That could possibly work great for us both!

    How big is Fort Collins?

And I see you're from Thornton CO? Where is that? What kind of town?

If you like Versailles-sized Targets and labyrinths of ticky-tacky houses, Thornton is the place for you. It's a quasi-suburb of Denver to the far north outskirts.

Fort Collins is consistently rated as one of the best cities to live in the country (this year, it was #2, only beat out by a similar city near the Twin Cities.) Fort Collins isn't the place for me, but it sounds perfect for you.

Southwestern Colorado is beautiful, but Durango and Alamosa are the biggest cities for miles. What are your requirements? Do you just want to move to Colorado for the sake of it being Colorado?

    Oh, and one more thing:

Our state border sign beats all of your generic green interstate signs, eh?

Yeah Thornton is pretty bad, I'm just here temporarily between jobs. I have been in a small town in Wyoming for the last two years. I'm just hanging out for a couple of weeks visiting family and old friends. I miss Denver a lot when I'm gone but I can't stand it when I'm here. I'm heading to Sacramento, CA this week to start a new job. Hopefully it is cool there.

Fort Collins has maybe 150,000 people or so. Its not huge and its only an hour away from Denver. It is surrounded by farm land on three sides and the mountains on the fourth side.

Alamosa is pretty cool, as is Durango.

I know that someday I will end up in southern Colorado when I decide to settle down. I will probably end up in Silverton or Ouray. Both of which are great towns, just too small and isolated to be what you are looking for from your description.

If you like snow and have 3 dogs you would probably do well in a mountain town.

It kind of depends on how big of a town you want to live in and what you want as far as jobs and school.
There is a lot of cool towns in Colorado.
