Anyone ever had difficultly finding a job solely because of your hairstyle? This was a bit of a worry before I got mine done.
chef says i need to cut my hair before he can advance me anymore inn the kitchen. i don't know if its a safety thing or an image thing though. personally i think im the safest one there when it comes to hair since no one is bald and i can fit all of my hair into my stretchy hat,
its not a safety thing. i mean you see females in the kitchen with long hair all the time. i think its more discrimination. im a cook too. and you know what you prolly will have to work a little harder then some one else, but as soon as the chef sees he is missing out on some one who tries harder then the next person you`ll prolly get promoted first. trust me ive seen a lot of shit in kitchens.
I got a job now doing graphic design. I work as part of a creative team, and they there was no discrimination or anything like that, its been really cool. The one guy I work with said he gonna call me Simba because i 'have a mane' hahaha
Actually, there's a dude in the local supermarket with dreads. He prepares raw fish AND is on view to the customers, so I've dropped a CV in there haha.
I got dreads while working for a company, and asked then, they said they didn't care. Then again, I am an artist, and artists are "supposed to look weird."
+1... i have a job but want a different one... I agree with the tied back look, it, that along with shirt and tie, can't go wrong ....
Be encouraged. When I was in high school, hardly anyone said "It's good to be an artist! The world needs art!!!" Instead, everyone told me I'd be poor and have a terrible time at life. Financially, I now make more than those people. Generally, I inspire more people to create than those people ever would. So again, be encouraged that you can do many things with your life. YOU choose your path. No one else can.
I actually just got a good paying job that demanded a professional appearance. I just dressed nice, trimmed my goatee, and walked in with a smile and acted like I was a confident business man. The guy made a joke during the interview that the day before he turned down like four people who "looked like deadheads." I interrupted him after he said and jokingly said you don't lump me into that category. He laughed and said no. I got the job over other people without dreads. The thing I find that matters most is how you carry yourself and being well spoken with a positive attitude goes A LOOOONG way.
as long as you keep them neat and not all over the place, i think you would be fine. I had two jobs when i had my dreads. No one really noticed anyway at my one job cuz i wore a hat. I even cut out the top of the hat so i could put my dreads up in a pony tail and it looked like a water fall. it was pretty funny, i wish i could find the hat
Iwork as a pharmacy tech and my boss doesn't care. He just wants me to keep them somewhat contained so it doesn't freak out the customers lol
