I think I have learnt a good deal of patience since I started this journey, and have given up on the rolling & rubbing:)
But there is a dread on my left hand side, which is locking up really nice...
it has locked up the new hair above the backcombed bit which im happy about (2 inches) but there is a large section where it has split into 2 dreads.
The only thing is now, they have started locking up into seperate sections and have left no loose hair or anything in between them to pull them back together!
I dont mind them growing into two but keeping as one at the tip, but alot of mine have done this now, and im starting to lose my fatties :(
I can get a pic if required, I just dont know how to solve it, I know I have to stop worrying & just to let go.

Hmm I'm not sure I know what you mean.... Do you mean half way down the dread its starting to split into two?

Anyway as far as you losing your bigger dreads I don't think you need to worry too much. I personally don't believe that my dreads actually started locking properly and completely independently until after about two years or so without me doing anything to help them. After about this point ( I think, I'm not sure) they started growing together and congoing. hence some got fatter as I didn't rip them apart. It was almost always certain dreads that really wanted to congo so after a while I gave up ripping them apart. The one's at the back of my head lower down and by the corners of my head at the back of my head. Know where I mean???

Point is I think over time maybe not immediatly you'll get larger dreads comming as long as you don't rip. If I've totally misunderstood your question please tell!:)

If I have understood right then maybe stick a bead/ring/coil or whatever where its starting to come apart?

One way of solving this would be to crochet the two dreads together. I'm sure some will advice you against it, and you might not be to keen on it. But the way I see it, if you dont want holes in you dreads, you don't need them there then. Simple as that :p

Off-topic(ish): Crochet is not nearly as bad as people make it. In comparison to what I did to my loose hairs one day, I felt it was stupid then, but i dont regret it now. They weren't crotched any ol' way. The looseys were crotched into loose base hair, and then back combed. I can already forsee a wall of flame from someone, maybe?

Let me cut to it, after 2-3 weeks of 50% tam, my Dreads feel very locked into place. I still have loose hairs, but not as bad as where it was, and I'm loving it.

lol. I haven't seen that someone post recently, I'm sure they will at some point. I'm totally in aggreement though about crotchting, although I've never done it and never will, I don't see how much harm it can really do to one's hair. At least no more harm that you do when you rip the dreads apart. I mean when you do that you are ripping the hairs apart you're breaking the hair in two, no question, I'm not sure crotcheting would do that. I've never heard of anyone who crotchetted and then got problems from it. If there is anyone please post, I'd like to hear about it.

Word up, and come to think of it, a bead is just bad ass for the situation.

a bead would work. however, if the dreads are splitting in two on their own, that just might be where your hair sections naturally, and something you might have a hard time keeping together over the long run. but try a bead and see if it works. maybe you'll just have to keep beads in. either way, it'll work out just fine, i'm sure. :)

yeah i was just about to suggest a bead:D
and it they dont connect you could leave the bead in there to give it the illusion of 1 dread thats not splitting
