Riding my bike is the only time I "wear sandals", as I like to be fastened securely to the pedals so that I can take advantage of the power to be gained on the upstroke, as well as provide better control on high-speed off road downhill runs. I use SPD sandals, which come off immediately once I stop, so I consider them part of the bike, rather than footwear:



For short trips to the store or around the village I'll ride barefoot, as I installed pedals that are wide enough to be comfortable:



Anyone who is into mountain biking should try SPD. I rode for years with power grips,:



but switched over to SPD after the last set wore out. The difference in power and control is significant and the difference between SPD and no retention mechanism is profound.

Now, just to keep on topic, as well as continue the distraction from unpleasantness just a bit furthur (yep, like the bus), here's a photo of bare feet in action:

why dont someone make a comfy toe grip pedal for bikes and barefooters.

 

Take a look at the sandals in my post and note the location of the interface clip that locks it into the pedal; it is located behind the ball of the foot at the center balance point of the foot.

When locked in, your foot becomes anchored firmly on the pedal in all directions at a central balance point, thus insuring that any input from your body is input directly to the bike. This allows for dramatically greater power and control in nearly all situations. Unlocking is immediate with a simple twist that's easily learned.

SPD systems are used by just about every champion mountain biker, with a small minority using power grips. For me, the sandals are a nice compromise, as I still feel the "air between my toes" while getting the control and power I relish while bombing down rock embankments at 35 mph. (BTW, just in case anyone's curious, I ride one of these)

 

Oh, I see.. The shoe looks ultralite. (but you know Boogahbaa) she dont like shoes of no kind..
For me Id be comfortable, Id use them.

Yes, indeed... the first snow in fall... even before official winter's beginning... and of course, I couldn't resist to let my toes taste it...
even though it was just a short taste on my balcony, having a snowy cigarette before going to bed:



I just wonder, whether people will be at work on time tomorrow... the snow is forecast to turn into rain during the night... that's gonna leave one great ice-skating track, for sure.
