I was just wondering. What were the reactions, comments impressions comming from hippies to Hair when it came out in '68?
If your talking the play Hair.. I saw it on my 18th birthday .. I thought it was farout cool, groovie ,and outta sight.. and I liked it too..I think it was pretty good for back then..I was a bit shocked when everyone came out from under the big blanket nekid.. I wasn't expecting that.. but it was cool and I didn't have a problem with it..I just wasnt use ta seeing all that skin on stage.. nudity wasnt as acepted or seen back then..hell Ozzie and Harriott and Rickie and Lucy still splet in single beds..I had seen nudity at love ins and at the park and beach..but not like a whole stage full in your face...lol.. I was stoned to the max too..it was pretty cool all in all.. I saw the movie later as it loses a lot in the film.. the play is much better..
It was the first live show I had ever been to. I walked into the theatre and it smelt of incense and the stage was all set up, and there was smoke and there was this air of expectation like you wouldn't believe. And then the music started and all these crazy hippies came running in from the back of the theatre, laughing and dancing and playing with people, sitting on their laps or crawling over the audience. It was so cool! It would be one of the moments I would relive in this life if I could. Then when they all stood there naked...geez, was a shock, and I didn't know where to look so I just kept looking in the eyes of someone at the front while holding my breath (poor innocent love was I...) I just had the vague impression of PUBIC HAIR and that was enough for me...ha ha. The movie was total crap in comparison. I want to see the live show again.
I've only seen the movie...one of my favourites at that. I've got the whole soundtrack (from the play) and it is GROOVY.
"I'm hairy high and low, don't ask me why...DON'T KNOW...It's not for lack of bread, like the Grateful Dead...darling...."
