Something we didn't hear much about in the media in May of this year. The results of an audit that was done on the spending of billions for contracted goods or services in Iraq. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/23/world/middleeast/23audit.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1 I think the Obama administration could recoup some of our bailout funds, by cracking down on this sort of behavior.
Yeah but theres no "We" involved. Groups like blackwater whome outnumber american soldiers, are paid for by corperations, but who knows, i wouldnt doubt tax dollars are scimmed behind the curtains to pay for them too. But yea it is a blackhole of tax dollars over there. You buy the bombs to blow things up, then you pay to have those things rebuilt.
$300 million and you don't know what they were paid to do? Cripes. That's not a scandal in your country? Our entire government crumbled and dissolved in 2005 after $100 million was unethically awarded in a sponsorship scandal in Canada. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sponsorship_scandal
Not even close. Blackwater employed about 1,000 personel in Iraq. All the contractors combined (I believe there are about a dozen companies) would not even equal the number of US soldiers in Iraq. Estimated number of contractors employed in Iraq are about 100,000. This includes security, consulting, logistics, services, etc... And not all contractors are "mercenaries" or "hired guns". The number of PMC's are at about a 1:10 ratio with US soldiers, which is still a large increase compared to prior conflicts. In ODS the ratio was about 1:100.
