I read this today, and felt it was appropriate to some of the things that we've been talking about here in the Politics Forum.

So what does the long-term effects of the global economic crisis mean for those most vulnerable, the poor all around the world?

    My emphasis is in blue.

The first country that comes to my mind is Africa there are millions living off of UN food, which will dry up here shortly. With no market for diamonds and fancy stuff UN “peacekeepers” and French and Belgian mercenaries will leave and a huge power vacuum will open up. Insanity..

India also, the Tec Boom is about over for them all the millions on the verge of starvation will be in starvation.

What a lovely thread you should rename it After Dinner Thoughts.

zihger, did you take the same geography class as Palin did? Africa is a continent that is comprised of 53 countries and 7 territories.

Interesting article Ari, some of the issues I've been increasingly mulling over this past week. When this ends what will the landscape look like?

I see the republican apologists on the one hand saying they didn't see it coming, and on the other hand still point blame at unions and safety nets. The democrats to this point don't seem to have a real strategy for solving the underlying issues. They spout accountability and oversight, but they don't enforce it. And no matter what party affiliation I see the rich and powerful circling the wagons and only interested in protecting their own assets.

Few seem interested in the plight of the working man. And if he is the basis for a strong economy why shouldn't his needs be addressed?
