Im planning on plaiting my dreadlocks before I head off to East Africa next month.

I have a lot of crazy new growth at the moment and its all hanging in my face. I quite like the idea of it being plaited temporarily to keep it out the way.

Il take pics once its all done

Yeah I guess so, braids are just very thin though aren't they. At least thats what I know braids as. Plaits tend to be thicker and just one of them, or maybe two?????

If it floats your boat go for it. I just never considered it with my dreads. I really don't see the point for dreadlocks though. If you want them out oh your face why just tie them back, wear a hat, or a head band?

it gets very hot in Africa, headbands and hats and suchlike just bring on skin rashes in hot weather.
and I hate hot hair in my face.

is your hair too short to just tie them back. I know mine is right at the length that I still can't tie all them back while most I can. I sucks because I want nothing more than to just tie them back and forget out it. Patients I keep telling myself.

My dreads are very long at the back, almost to my hips. but shorter at the front and I cant tie some of them up.
my hair shrank in interesting sizes when they started to mature

I braid mine all the time...in fact thats how I usually wear em. My hair is so short...its the only style that keeps em out of my face and somewhat presentable for work and stuff.
