Ok, I've worked in an offices ever since I've been working and I just can't stand all the politics involved. Some people are so petty, two faced, bitchy, backstabbing or just plain fucking weird. And it's nearly always women who are the problem. Why the hell can't I just go to work happy and content, get on with everyone, work hard, get the job done and get my pay check at the end of it. That's all I care about.

Recently I started a new job and my boss who's male (thankfully) is a really nice guy along with this girl who's training me. But there is this girl who I'll be working with and although she isn't really giving me shit, her attitude bothers me. She never looks me in the eye, unless I ask her a question directly. It's as if I'm not there and I'm just a piece of furniture. I particularly notice this when we are in a meeting. And she comes across as being unfriendly, unapproachable and just someone with a bad attitude.

Ok, maybe she has problems at home, but don't we all. Regardless of whether I had problems or not, I would never behave like that at work to anyone. Maybe she needs time to get used to me, but to act the way she is ain't a good start. And to top it off this girl is older than me. Sometimes I think maybe she suffers from "short woman's syndrome" as I call it and feels threatened by me! (I'm 5 ft 10") Not all short women are like that of course but I've met a few people in my time, mostly men infact who I'd put in that "category", who have a real chip on their shoulder.

I don't know what her problem is. On the surface I act like it doesn't bother me, but I'm dreading when the nice girl goes and I'm stuck with the "bitch".

Anyone else here have similar problems? Any advice I'd certainly appreciate.

Ever watch Office Space (it's sort of like that show The Office on BBC, but funnier)?

So far it doesn't sound like she's too bad. Maybe she's like that with everyone? Maybe she's stand-offish until she gets to know you and how well you work in the team? Maybe she sees you as the competition? Maybe they took you on because she was being slack at her job and the sight of you makes her feel incompetent?

I guess you should keep in as much contact with her as possible: try to talk with her a lot, bring her into non-work-related conversations and act like you're interested in her. Maintain a cheerful disposition towards everyone in the office, including her. Eventually you will see the results, good or bad.

I agree guys are the best to work with! (touch wood)
