Why the Ocala "Gathering" doesn't work

come on down to Florida this winter yall~~

ocala is a pleasant place,

main meadow last year was quite peaceful,
story time in the main tent was pleasant too,
A camp really does have the best biscuits and gravy you've ever had,
and always has good music playin, for the most part.






i saw last winter's gathering come together and it was absolutely breathetaking in every way,,
and i really know it will be again this year too..
come early,,, help out,
BRING YOUR PRAYERS!!! Lord knows they're heard,
love is all you need,
and i'm pretty sure it'll be a beautiful time again this winter,
mhm.

 

i'll be honest i don't like florida, but, ocala is a gathering, i met some of my closest friends at that gathering. to say it doesn't work doesn't make sence because...
people,woods,free food, and love makes a gathering, and what is at ocala, people,free food, woods and love. now thats not to say that there isn't tough love there, but still those a campers are my family those front gaters are my family, and if i get down there this year your damn right i'll be drinking beers and eating damn good food with my family! family didn't make my first ocala expierence bad, being pregnant, getting sick and getting bugs did, so if i make it this year i'll wear a hat and take some pepto!

My first gathering was Ocala this year, which brought me to Wyoming as well.

Ocala worked so well for me probably because it was my first gathering, but it would have worked for me even if it weren't. My very first interaction with family was having a seemingly very drunk a camper slam a mag light on my car repeatedly telling me to slow down(even though I was creepin) and then yelling at me about some shit and looking all big like he was going to bash my head in with a flashlight. But fuck man, I thought that was awesome. I loved every second I was there, and wish I had stayed longer. I thought it was more diverse a gathering then I experienced Wyoming to be, which I liked better. Not only lots of new cats like myself but also just lots of types in general.

I really don't care whether anyone prays for peace or not, I feel like the connection and love between the people gathering are what it's about. I feel like thats all that really matters, that everyone in this large incredibly diverse group of people, seemingly strangers, aren't really at all but are connected in a way that's more beautiful then anything I've witnessed so far in life. So who gives a shit about praying for peace, just love everyone and shit takes care of itself.

Fuck yeh for Ocala road dogs! I met and married my road dog in Ocala almost five years ago and he's a great brother and does great things for family and is an insparation to many. I'm a Florida kid and Ocala is where my heart is, my husband is from the West coast but he loves Ocala and gett'n down to the nitty gritty.:cheers2:

 

Ok when is the gathering in Ocala? I tried to find it on the website but it hurts my eyes I can't read it haha. I have never been and I hear it is the ultimate experience.

 

Don't know about that "Ultimate Experience" part, but....first two weeks of February.

 

It is Definately an Experience,which I Love to take part in. It's the Last two weeks in February, but first two weeks are for setting it up. Enjoy and definately experience the Experience. Peace & Happy Trails.

I'm glad to see "some" replies to this thread thats not bashing Ocala, Ive been going now for over 20 some odd years (Camp Burnt Out FTW) and have met lots of cool peoples.

What Ocala needs is just a little love and attention from all family and friends and it'l be perfectly what you want, Come all ye faithfull and lets love our brothers and sisters and bask in what freedoms we still have left.

i've been to the ocala gathering a couple of times as a florida resident and both times i have had good experiences. the gathering in 2005 was the best, i stayed with F CAMP so if anyone from there is one here please PM i'd love to hear from you. i haven't been to other gatherings but like i said i have had good experiences with the ocala gathering. the only problem is the cops, they seem to show up quite a bit.

 

Does anyone know where the Ocala Gathering will be this year...i assume that Freak Creek will still be there...or maybe WHEN Ocala is? is it the same time as last year?

I've never been to a gathering but want to attend this coming february. I heard great things about it. Anything can "work" if you make it. I hope to see you in february evryone!

 

howdy folks, it may be too late in the year to do this, but will attempt it anyway. i`ve no idea @ this point where the gathering will be. but if there`s a waterway relatively close by, i`m "re-introducing" an old concept in travel. & if this ever gets off the ground, Ocala will be the most Southeast this form of travel would go. unless, of course some folks wish to go all the way to the keys in the winter. which, i hear there`s quite a lively group well-established there. i`m talking bout water-travel. i`m not entirely sure i`ll make it to Ocala this year. but i`m hoping some folks would carry the torch in that direction as it were.

 

I went to my first Ocala gathering in 94? I think it was my memory of dates is not what it used to be...We had a scare because of the escaped convicts that year that raped a girl and killed her brother a few miles down the road...the vibe was strange and tense for a while that year but I met some people I will never forget and had my life changed by the good things there. Like always there were some bad scenes and drama all over but on the whole ,the good I myself got out of it overcame my doubts about the gathering. I only make it every few years but its always the same thing folks debate the good and bad of Ocala . Some come away from it with good memorys some with bad. It is what it is and all we can do is try to shine some love where its needed..just my opinion guys..

i`ve only been to the prarie events not the lakes. i went too late to a lake event once, doesn`t count. although, if one of the lake event`s is connected somewhat...the possibilities are intriguing. one of the advantages of ocala is relatively flat trails. & i do remember a horse there in the 80`s, tho i doubt the land would support that nowadays. & i lived on the streets of new smyrna bch 4 awhile b4 event, was kinda nice.

 

man yer family isn't schwagg. i went to ocala in 05. it was my first gathering. i haven't been back. not on acct of bad exp but because other stuff comes up. life happens. if you don't like a camp, don't hang out there. don't forget that like it or not they are family. alcohol hurts but we can't be hating our family. if you want more "quality" folks then show up and pray and help out. quit poor mouthing ocala. division does the leos job better than they could ever do. be easy.
