ive heard that normal hairbands are kinds bad for your dreads, and that the best ones are hairbands with real hair wrapped around them.
    anyone know anything?

if you mean rubber bands, don't use any of those. there's no need to with dreads. if you mean head bands, like the big ones that fit around your forehead, then I don't think it really matters.

real hair wrapped around them? step away from the pipe for a couple hours and reread your post.

any tight tie is potentially damaging to hair. Locs are sort of the highwire between pamper and complete damage.
what you want, thinking of thickness, are fabric covered elastics.
Just no rubber bands and nothing with metal parts.
Others can advise on your hair swallowing ties left in long therm.

I use hair bands that are "no damage" (no metal parts, etc.) and always let my hair down for at least part of the day to relax the hair and scalp. Try not to tie them back too tightly and don't tie them back when they're wet (increases damage).
