I read online some where that as of July 2009 you will no longer be able to smoke in the coffe shops, is that true if so it makes me want to cry so bad because this was the top thing on my list to experience it and I don't have enough money saved up yet. Anyone know of any super dirt cheap vacation packages? I haven't been able to find anything under $3000

Don't worry, IT IS NOT TRUE.
The Amsterdam officials ARE thinking about closing 43 shops by 2011 however. The reason they give is that they are within 250 meters of schools. Here is a link to the whole story: http://www.dutchamsterdam.nl/548-amsterdam-closing-coffeeshops

But as it says in the story,it is just a thought at the moment. And if it does happen there are still hundreds more that will remain open.

Actually its been a "thought" for several years now and the current gov't is finally pushing for action.

Coffeeshop owners can even apply to have a gov't official do a measuring to determine if there shop is within qualifying distance. Fortunately I believe elections are to be had PRIOR to 2011 so perhaps the conservative idiots like Cohen will be out of office by then.

The link you provided even states

"The shops must close their businesses no later than December 2011, according to Het Amsterdamse coffeeshopbeleid 2008 (Amsterdam Coffeeshop Policy Statement 2008), which is to be presented later today."
