Is this really unethical?

So, I'm kinda having an ethical dilemma, and since I know you guys are all borderline saints I decided to ask you.

    Here's the scoop:

I'm broke as all hell right now, and need to find someway to make money until I can get a more stable job. I just graduated college (international studies), and while I have a lot of general skills, I don't have a specific enough set to actually get hired anywhere (plus we're in the Great Depression II).

However, the one area that I'm pretty damned good at is writing (I get told this regularly.) So...If I offered to write essays for local college kids in exchange for cash, would that really be unethical? I mean, I understand why plagiarizing is wrong, because your taking credit for writing that you didn't do, without the authors permission. But, if the exchange of money is essentially my consent for the essay to be used without any credit (i.e, I don't care) is that still wrong? Yes, it's lazy on the student's part, and they're the ones who suffer in the end because they don't learn the material, but isn't that their problem? I'm not going to make them pay me.

I'm obviously not going to start a business, but since finals are coming up and I needed a way to make cash, I just thought, why not? I'm also paranoid because my dad is a college professor, so I've been drilled on this issue before.

Ah, fuck it, I'll just apply to a brothel in Nevada...

well, if you apply to one of our brothels, be sure to swing through reno and say hi

it's unethical, it's academic dishonesty, but, you're the person it's hurting (and, I suppose in a "you're cheating them out of their education" sort of way they're getting hurt too, but I think by being an accomplice they're taking that burden off your head)

so, you have to ask yourself, do you care?

the ethical delimma lies with the student, but if you want to make money this way you will need to find a niche. i'm great at writing essays -when i know about something- but i couldnt write an essay on, say, thermodynamics

if you are going to do this, you better stick with what you -generally- know already

and if it comes to medicine, stay the hell away from it. i dont want to end up going to a doctor someday who shouldnt have graduated cause they couldnt hack it even in college....

Why, there are no street corners in your neighborhood?

But how does it hurt me? It's not my grade, and I don't care about the credit. And it would be the student that would approach me about it, I'm not going to go to campus with a megaphone. I feel like this is one of those johns vs prostitutes dilemmas...who's really to blame, the demander, or the supplier?

I think that's not unethical at all.

And I think it's the demanders ;D That's my vote on that argument.

thermodynamics really aren't that bad once you get a firm grasp on the laws

seeing all the fucked up ways entropy applies, for example is a bitch, but once you have? fuckin' cake.

Go for it, really.. easy money. In my book the ethical problem (if any) is with the person paying for it.. so go on.

Plus there's no risk of STDs, unlike brothels ;)

Well, most science/math courses don't have a lot of writing assignments anyway. I've taken courses on a broad range of subjects--English, environmental studies, philosophy, ethics (can you tell? haha), politics, history, African studies, globalization, etc. Also, it could be a way for me to learn more about things I wouldn't have otherwise studied.

Last year I did my housemate's assignments for her more or less, this was in Drama, and I got paid with a box of cinnamon buns for each one :D

Good fuckin deal, I don't mind writing essays and I fucking love cinnamon buns.

it's a deceptive fucker that way

one of the more obscure fun ones

black objects, though they do absorb certain energies at a much higher rate, will also give off heat, at a much higher rate, than other colors.

    I think that's freaky cool

So...how much should I charge for this? Should I do it by word or by page count? I'm thinking:

    1-5 pgs, $25
    6-10 pgs $50
    and so on.

Or should I go higher? I want to have something set, since I'm really bad at price negotiation :(

Its unethical, but I mean, someone who wants to bs their way through school will do it regardless.

And those prices are way too cheap. It needs to be something like $150 for 1-5 pages, $250 for 5-8, $300 for 8-10..

Oh, ok. I like your prices better :p I just wasn't sure what the average student would be willing to pay.

personally, i am 100% against the idea. but there are far worse things you could do, and if you are not smart enough to handle fast food then i guess you have to take whatever kind of income you get.
