You are missing the point about that database.
Most of you havent realised that the BNP have now sacrificed their stance which criticises the government on the issue of data loss. Losing the database was always bound to give the enemies of the BNP a chance to attack the members of that party. This would naturally lead to the debate about whether members of any party are safe from being attacked. Think about it. A load of muslims set fire to cars and attck BNP members. The BNP says "If it can happen to us, well it can happen to the labour party, after all they started the war on Iraq". This episode does not weaken the hand of the BNP it strengthens it.

Any attacks on the BNP membership will give them an opportunity to argue for tighter legislation over attcks upon members of lawfully registered parliamentary parties (which the BNP is). It will strengthen their hand within the parliamentary procedure and protection under the law. It will also give them a chance to show who the enemies of democracy really are.
