Papa Johns pizza has a delivery fee which is near 2$, plus the already expensive price of their pizza's which are the most of any delivery service, and then. PLUS the delivery fee, which they claim is for gas, they ask that you add a tip, considering the delivery "fee" is not a tip... So what happens? Not to hard to figure out, customers say, okay, ill pay this embedded delivery "fee", but to hell with another 2 dollar or so tip after I just payed a fucking delivery fee, which sounds a lot like a tip, except in this case its not according to the company. So the delivery people lose out by not being tipped, due to this embedded delivery fee which goes towards gas, and which the driver is not allowed to have. Scummy papa john's, willingly shafting their workers and at the same time abusing their customers by asking them to pay TWO tips, one for the corporations gas, the other(if you feel like it), for the driver, (and how many people do you think "feel" like paying two tips?).
My friend works for Papa John's in Gatlinburg TN. It's a very busy tourist town on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In season he can make 600 a night in tips. IMO a two dollar delivery fee puts off most customers from tipping properly. I would never tip past the two.
I used to work at Pizza Hut so they have one and I ordered from Hungry Howie's 2 nights ago so they have it too
Wow, that's pretty surprising to me. It must be a regional thing or I have not ordered a pizza in a long time...I think the latter.
honestly the fee goes towards utilities and I have no problem paying a fee so they can wash our dishes
Well the point is tho, whether you like it or not is debatable, that this "method" used by pizza places ends up hurting their own people in the end, because the vat majority of people are not going to pay two separate fee's that are both associated with the delivery, that's just reality, you don't have to like it.
when I worked people were fine with the fees... I mean tip is optional not a fee... people tip to not be douche bags... we're living in an expensive world so people should expect this type of stuff and suck it up
In my town we only have Pizza Hut and Dominoes, neither of them have the extra fees. We are a pretty small town though so that may have something to do with it. When I worked at Dominoes in Denver a few years ago they were still doing free delivery, I don't know if that has changed yet or not.
lol @ the idea or even mundane notion that the average person is going to "suck up" a second fee when they have the option not to...lol that aint the world I have been living in, maybe thats how it is where you live...though I doubt it..
I mean the tip goes to the driver... it's not the drivers fault that the company has a delivery fee... but I generally surround myself with kind and thoughtful people so maybe I'm wrong
Really, I wish they'd just up the price on a pizza instead of a delivery fee UNLESS: the fee goes to the driver directly or as a pool each night. Drivers pay their own gas, maintenance and insurance. the restaurant has no stake in the delivery fee.
but we are missing one important bit of information here its not like the driver says ok its x amount for your pizza thanks and now 2$ for the delivery fee oh and plus tip he simply says its x amount and waits for his tip most americans are to stupid to read the fine print and notice there is even a 2$ fee IMO i dont think it would hinder tips one bit as long as your friend is courteous polite and interesting however i will say there is no fee here in houston at papa johns
well you're still expected to tip.... the delivery fee goes nowhere near the driver.... if people care so much about their money read their receipts
Tipping is an American thing to begin with and if you want to be that American that tips then do so, I personally find that to be a bullshit way to show off to a gold digger, other than that totally useless and undeserved. Another point that should be touched on is that if we disagree with what our job is so called doing to us then we should leave the place and only come back to pay jacked up prices for food we know is spit in. Sucks to let sucky jobs rule you really, life is meant to be crafted, not handed to us, this is the beginning and end of the problem, do it your fkn self, that way you know you are not getting fucked.
I used to work for pizza hut as a driver. This was in the early 90s though. We charged 50 cents for delivery and I received that money at the end of the night. In fact the company gave me 15 dollars gauranteed. Now in my area the deliver charge is 2.00 or 2.50 depending. I believe this goes to the driver still but I will start asking. I always tip these guys well because it is is not an easy job. You have to hustle and put miles on your car. I had an old car and had to make several costly repairs on it because of the wear and tear I put on it then. The extra money I give may help offset some of the natural expenses these guys can incur.
I used to deliver pizza's many years ago. It was the company car, the company's gas, and the company's insurance. In this day and age of the corporate system this no longer existes. It is the same as the self checkouts at walmart, less expenditures equal more profits. The system is building on the consumer being the only judge, and that is price. The fact that people are irrelavent except for certain situations. Get used to the fact that all people that have no money (education) will be living in the same conditions as their brothers in the third world. The governments are never concerned with the individual, only the money that they can create out if nothing.
