I'm not that naive that I think Obama want some kinda socialist revolution in the USA. I know that he's not the socialist Messiah that many people - especially europeans - think he is. But still I feel quite euphoric about the election of Obama, not because I think he's a socialist or some kinda long lost buddy. He's for death penalty, for gods sake (just like McCain)! NO, I'm euphoric because I'm thinking that we're entering a new age, because of the rings in the water the symbol "Obama" will spread. The symbol of change that we all are longing for after 8 years 'red alert' and neocons a lá 1984. Maybe we are finally stepping into the age of aquarius - true free anarchism..? ...or am I too naive hoping that?.. love, -wolf-
Look, no offense, but you live in Denmark. You have no idea what it's like here. Unless you've lived here for a few years, you can't fully understand American culture and how we got to be the way we are.
well i hope your right wolf. but i doubt its going to work like that. it will probably take some effort. but i do really feel a change coming. not quite sure what though. some kind of enlightenment.
Good to hear you're calm, Strawberry. I didn't wrote that because I'm particular worrying about the american society, merely because I know how heavy impact american politics have on the rest of the world. I interfere in american political subjects, because any american phenomenon spread waves to the rest of the world. There's a saying & a common philosophy in my country that "the USA today will always be the picture of how Denmark would be in 10 years". The scaring thing is that the prophecy seem true. For instance, gunfire between two gangs have become a more and more common problem the recent two years. Before that knives were the problem... I have been living with a rightwing, reactionary government for 8 years too, and I know that the strongest factor tilting the danish government is by foreign outputs / fresh impulses. But yes, you're right that I don't know much about the american society because I'm a dane, just like you don't know much about the danish society because you are an american... love, -wolf-
The basic condition for enlightment is bread. If Obama will suceed securing all americans free health insurance, the single american will have more surplus to think critical & be enlightened. So despite Obama is not a socialist at all, his role will cause an opening of all the good gates, I think. I see all the bad things, but I'm basically optimistic about the future. People is beginning to realize that conservative politics are wrong, and later - I hope - people will realize that the capitalist philosophy is enslaving people. love, -wolf-
I feel that real change will only come about if Obama fails, because he's the last hope. If he fails then perhaps people will actually think about the nature of our government and economy(provided that fails too).
If you think obama means change then you've been sucked into the 2/1 party dictatorships propaganda. Obama will continue to prop up the banks and borrow heavily to fund tax cuts while overspending on wealth redistribution programmes. You in america are very unfortunate to have an idiot on the right who mismanaged the economy and spent buckets on blowing up brown people and a typical centrist who doesnt seem to have guaged where america is in its boom and bust cycle. Obama = more of the same except that hes african.
As earlier said, I don't believe in Obama as a revolutionary icon either, that many people expect him to be. But I think you're having to much focus on the rigidness of the current political system, and how Obama - obviously - will be slimed into the bureaucratic, lobbyist, corrupt system in Washington DC. I know that following might sound naive - especially to americans - but, hell, it's not Obama the 95% of rest of this worlds population is waiting for - It's his signal value... We're hoping his signal value will wake up the American population... and free health insurance will be the first step of mobilisation - intended or not... love, -wolf-
The democratic party has been responsible for all sorts of outrages. The republicans are not alone in that. Consider that a democratic senate has been passing heaps of Bush appointments and policies. What exactly is Obamas symbol value, because if its his blackness then I fail to see what it symbolises other than the end of white primacy in america.
I haven't wrote a word that the signal value of electing Obama lies in his "blackness", but I'm thinking he's signalling some sort of effort for common people to reclaim what reaganism & neoliberalism did steal from them the last two decades. That's what people around the world is hoping for & celebrating - not some banal color issue...
OK. I'm thinking that you are looking at it from the top, while I'm looking at it from the bottom. Love, -wolf-
Obama is probably the most aggressive socialist presidents the US has ever had. I lack much faith in Obama. Many adults and teens feel as thought he is the cure to the economy's problems. IMHO, people only like him because of his "rock star" status. He tells everyone what they want to hear, true or untrue. Many other awful communist leaders have done the same thing before they gain absolute power. But it's ok. There will be a revolution. Peace!
Seems to me anarchists are anti government and especially anti big government. Obama like Bush is a rabid proponent of big government. It appears many if not most cannot see the forest for the trees.
