The Velvet Underground & Nico is definatly my favorite album of all time. The first time i heard that i was completly amazed at what i heard White Light/White Heat is also great but for completly different reasons. they get into some way crazier stuff. "I Heard Her Call my Name" is probably the earliest metal song ever written those particularly are two of my favorite albums
The Velvet Underground are golden Gods. The Velvet Underground & Nico is the best album ever made indeed. Yet, The Velvet Underground, White Light/White Heat, and Loaded come very close... "Beginning To See The Light", "Pale Blue Eyes", "I Heard Her Call My Name", "Sister Ray", "White Light/White Heat", "Rock n' Roll", "New Age", and others are all completely amazing songs. Each of them is just an explosion of purely lunatic musical genius. They practically have no single bad song. It's just one masterpiece after the other... and oh, how they flow.
The Velvet Underground was one of the best bands in history and one of the only bands that really matter that came out of the 60's. My favorite album would either The Velvet Underground and Nico or White Light/White heat. But that's studio wise. Live 1969 is absolutely brilliant.

my favorite lou reed song is 'ocean' there are different versions scattered around, including one of those velvet's unreleased cds, and a live velvet's version, and his first solo lp 'heroin' doesn't sound like heroin--'ocean' does...
