I was looking on Wikipedia the other day and the featured article for the day was on Odwalla. This is a chain of health food shops in America. They sell:

    1. Soy drinks. Unfermented soy destroys the thyroid gland.

    2. 100% pure fruit juices. These contain excessive amounts of fructose and there are much the same problems associated with pure fruit juice as there is with high fructose corn syrup. There is nothing wrong with eating a bit of fresh or even tinned fruit.

    3. Fruit bars. These are made with dried fruit and most of the time dried fruit has added sulphites. Many people are allergic to sulphites. Besides, dried fruit has to be soaked and reconstituted to be of any use to the human body.

I am inclined to believe that "health food " is a meaningless term. The fact that Odwalla is owned by Coca-Cola says a great deal. Also the fact that Odwalla has been commercially successful just shows the large amount of sheeple around.

Cornflakes when first introduced were also touted as a "health food".

I've always taken it to mean simply the lesser of two evils really, at least compared to most commercially available foods. But in any event, we're doomed as all our crops are grown using fertilizers which break down into Radioactive compounds, in essence the Ag. community is subjecting the worlds population to a long term, low dose chemotherapy.

You can however avoid it all and grow your own Organicly. Note I emphasize D.I.Y. because even many organic farms will use natural sources of rock phosphates which break down into those very same radioactive compounds I mentioned before.

The Phosphates are used mainly as a means to maximize growth rate and overall yeild with maximum profit being the goal, not health or sustainability, but are really unnessisary for the sake of growing a plant naturally which will provide a suitable yeild.

Industry, B-a-a-a-a-a-a-d... ;) But it can be corrected and improved if enough folks are pulled away from Dancing wit the stars and Monday night football to take up the fight.

Odwalla is owned by Coca Cola?
    thanks for the tip
and thats only for odwalla, though, I don't call that health food. But I never used it, something about it just didn't seem very healthy. it doesn' convince you.

The term 'health food' shouldn't exist, but it has to exist today because of all of this bullshit food we're eating. it should be called 'natural food' they do use that term, but not so much.

Whole foods... foods not wrapped in plastic. Food that doesn't have an extensive amount of time it can spend on a shelf. That is health food.

    The ones in my sig.

Good book. Reading it now. It inspired me to buy one of Joel Salatin's books on farming, which I am also reading now.
