im a 3rd year student, 20 yrs old, and i have to decide what i want to major in. iv been putting it off for years, but its gotten to the point where i need to decide right now, or i'l end up here way longer than i should and pay the college way more than i should my indecisiveness in choosing a major has to do with my mixed up views on whats important in life. its the age old problem, finding a job that balances practicality (cash) with enjoyment. i keep getting told by older people to think practically, that if i dont want to be a slave i should think about what the world wants more than what i want to do. BUT I DONT WANT TO SELL OUT! at the same time im real fearful of being poor and unsuccessful. how do you manage this sort of dilemma? im sure some of you have been through it. bottom line is, i dont want to sell out and be a slave to some big company, but at the same time i dont want to be a wage slave. AND I WANT TO BE A REBEL! is it enough to just be a rebel on your time off from your totally normal, uninteresting though practical job? i need to decide between majoring in psychology, philosophy, and anthropology. i can double major if i want. the way i see it, psych would be the most practical, as im very into how the brain works and how drugs affect it. but im against drugs! well, not weed and hallucinogens, im against tylenon, asprin, SSRI's, all that overprescribed crap that the government pushes. is there a way to work with drugs, morally? as for antho...anyone know anything about ethnography? ideally id want to get paid to travel around and document indigenous cultures, talking with them about their ways of life. how practical is this proffession? philosophy? i guess il have to dump that one. its the most interesting to me but its basically the least practical major ever. what do you say to a philosophy major with a job? "can i have a big mac and fries?" thanks for taking the time to read my rant. im just real mixed up right now. any advice would be appreciated, especially if your a bit older -rob
i would suggest you forget about those three options, and specialize in computer science. trust me, its really easy
I thik when it comes to that sorta stuff you really cant ask anyone else cuz its ot aone elses life. However, i wish you luck, ad im sure youll find something grande.
