Alright, it's time for an update (my first one actually ).

It's been 6 months, I started in mid May, and I'm not sure what to say, yet. The front half of my scalp hasn't locked very much. It's gotten quite curly (I have wavy hair normally) and a little tangly, but not much more than that. The back half is significantly more locked, but it's all very flat and squeamish-looking. I've read that flat fugly dreads are part of the process, but their look aren't encouraging me much (is there anything you can do to counter the flatness?). I've been talking myself into being patient, but sometimes I have moodswings in that area of the brain and my motivation fluctuates. But I will continue on my journey - I just need a little encouragement, some tips or any sort of acknowledgement really :cheers2:

Enough with the text, here are the photos:

Oh and, just a note; I'm not using any products or anything. Other than nettle shampoo of course.

Beautiful. I love when dreads are curly/wavy like that! One way to help flatness is palm rolling.

    Yeah man.
I'm only 8 days via neglect.

Gonna be fun watching it progress.

It about 4 months for me to notice anything. Prior to that it was all a tangly mess. Then, they started to separate and look more defined :)

    And thanks Poly and Mandy

You are right about the uniqueness, but if there's something I don't like it's flat dreads. I don't associate flat dreads with dreads at all :p

Oh and I'm not sure about the tam, I'm pretty sure they won't let me wear it at work. I guess I could wear it at home though, better than nothing I guess. :)

    Edit:
Okay so I have now ordered one tam and one headband. How exactly does a tam improve dreads? Is it juju magic? :)

get a tam that is 100% wool, it speeds up and promotes the knotting process

Was thinking of soaking my hair in salt water just to see if it'd improve my situation, any takers or nay sayers?

Go for it, but make sure you rinse out the salt after a while, I think a couple of hours would do. They look wonderful!
