But has anyone thought of getting a Shamwow to dry their heads? i was watching the commercial last night and was like "hmmmmmmm interesting." it supposedly is like a super towel/sponge type thing. heres a link to the commercial, it says it absorbs half of all the liquids the first pat. i just noticed they use it as a towel on a dog by the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwRISkyV_B8
Hahaha I did think about that. If it is as good as that guys makes it seem it should suck the moisture right out of the dreads.
if its anything close to how they make it look, you might want to stand by with an emergency hydration kit
At 0:46 they switch the carpet square. And, not that this matters, but at 1:24 they dub over his voice as he covers his mouth with the cloth.
I saw a display of this thing at a fair I was at on saturday. They do work as advertised, but the thing is, they have to be folded.
Yeah, I have done some research on these, and read the online reviews. The consensus was never clear though. Seemed to be about 50-50 on the reviews. Those that liked it and said it worked great versus those that thought it was a rip-off. You can take my word for it, or do some Google searches on "shamwow product review" or a similar search phrase. I will also note that it SEEMED to me like the ones that really liked it and thought it was good were also the ones who said "you HAVE to read the instructions!!!!!!" And this makes me think the others who said they could not get it to work as advertised were probably not RTFM. I don't have an extra $20.00 to blow on a product that may-or-may-not work (damn economy!) So if you do try it, be sure to follow the instructions on the package. If you try it, will you keep us posted?
Heeh2! Your signature picture is a rendering of Deep Thought, yes? Can you tell me about your sig pic??
I also saw a display with similar towels at a home show a couple of years ago... and if I remember the demonstration correctly, I think you first have to dampen the towel slightly with water before you use it. At least that was the case with the brand I saw.
That was the big thing that I noticed in the user reviews. Most of the people that RTFM said it has to be lightly damp. The rest said they tried to use theirs 'dry' and that they didn't work. Who knows. I have an extra $20.00 to buy one if it works, but I am not gonna blow my money to find out it's a scam. that's why I wanna read some experiences by those with dreads that have/will try this.
that commercial was on about 5 minutes ago. oh Vince... what a crazy dude. Anyways, as it's been said, if you watch the commercial there are several incongruity factors, when cleans up the carpet the puddle underneath disappears before he puts the shamwow on it, when he puts it in the bowl of water to absorb it they speed it up, etc... it's been said over and over again. It's been said it doesn't work that well. It would be so awesome if it did though!
I was on the swim team in high school, we used those, they've been around forever. Not on our heads, but to dry off quickly so you don't have to sit cold at meets. You can buy them anywhere you'd find anything to do with swimming/diving I assume. I know even our YMCA has them for sale at the pool. Probably a fraction of the cost too.
You can get the same thing at Wal-Mart for $10 bucks or so. My hubby used to detail cars and he said no shammy is really any better than another (brand).
