This thread says "favorite classical piece", but a lot of people have been listing romantic artists.

so if that is allowed, then wow Im really suprised no one has mentioned franz list.

    his work is amazing.

And many have listed from the modern...

The question was not "favorite piece from the classical era"...

Oh, and could you work on those contractions?
Capitals and spell check wouldn't hurt either....

One of my favourite pieces is "keyboard sonata L366 in D Minor" by Domenico Scarlatti who is really a baroque composer but his music greatly influenced the classical style. Anything by Tchaikovsky, Paganini or Beethoven also floats my boat.

Do you mean the Lacrimosa from the Requiem Mass? If so I think this is one of the most beautiful and moving pieces of music ever written.

It actually isn't Mozart. Mozart himself only wrote 8 bars of the lacrymosa.

Which version do you listen to? Süssmayer is ok, but the Robert Levin score is much better, and has 2 more movements.

Got me there - I've no idea. The CD i have is of an oldish recording (1962) with Herbert von Karajan conducting. I have heard other recordings, but personally I think this one is just right.
Also actually sung in the Requiem when I was a treble in the school choir.
An amazing experience, which made going onto Honneger's 'King David' the next year extrememly tedious.:D
