the airplane don't do a whole lot for me ,but I love janis!Granted, her voice was one that only jack daniels could create, but for putting her heart & soul into everything, she gets a 10+ from me.Also,I think her guitar player was just fucking awesome,To me,that dude's tone & style=blues perfection.just my thoughts
Ah, Grace and Janis... I was just the right age to adore those two... I was a teenager listening to music in the late 60s. There was a time when the San Francisco bands were the apex, the coolest of the cool. Then the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream burst on the scene with their virtuoso guitarists who played through these monster sounding Marshall amps, and they stole a bit of the limelight... But the Frisco bands (and a couple of L. A. bands called Spirit and The Doors) remained among my favorites. All that 60s music is still some of my favorite music to listen to, and if I feel like listening to something else I will either go with new age music from the 80s and early 90s or blues from the 30s through the 60s... but I digress... i've never been in a band, but I still have hopes of joining one, and I always thought it would be so cool to have a woman in your band like Janis or Grace EDIT: If i am not mistaken, Big Brother and Jefferson Starship (with 3 original Airplane members) are both still working bands--not to mention The Dead/Other ones... I would like to see all these bands someday soon
Speaking Janis... once, I was watching American Dreams (That show about the '60s, but it's really just a bunch of dramatic crap) and Meg (the loser teenybopper-ish main character) & some other character went to a coffee shop & guess who was singing there? ...Janis!! (an actress/singer portraying Janis, of course). And I was like "YEAH! This fucking rocks!!!!" And Meg was like "Ew, is she supposed to sing like that?!" Then I held this weird shocked expression for 10 minutes... uh, those banana-brained fools. Anyway... long live Janis. .\m/
I saw that episode and pretty much all the other episodes as well. I had the same reaction as you! Personnaly, Meg annoys me. She's my least favorite character. I just don't believe her in her role of protesting-against-the-war girl. She's not convincing. About the original question: I loooooove Jefferson Airplane. I'm actually listening to Surrealistic Pillow at the moment! I'm crazy about The Ballad of you and me and Pooneil. And White Rabbit too of course. And coming back to me and Volunteers and Martha and Crown of Creation and Plastic Fantastic lover and High Flying Bird and... etc! I like Janis too but to a lesser degree.
they are my fave 60s bands, jefferson and big brother. all the bands still together should just do a massive gig all together. anyone else heard about this new janis joplin movie, cos i heard somewhere renee zellweger is playing her. i can't see that at all, janis was too good. my uncle always says i look like her, but he's usually drunk when he says it so who knows? i've only recently realised 'as good as you've been to this world' is a great song.
Janis and Jefferson Airplane are amazing! I wish I was alive in the 60's to have the chance to see them.=(
about the new janis movie: either pink or renee zellwegger was going to play her. they got pink. but either way, its probably going to suck. i probably wont see it, i'll stick to the rose. maybe, maybe not...
I don't now what it is about Jefferson Airplane but, when I hear their songs I have to play a long or sing a long because they're just so catchy. I wouldn't even think about singing against Janis Joplin she's just the ultimate Female Blues Singer of 60's/70's.
Gotta agree with Rubin here, I think that Jefferson Airplanes music is kind of gaudy and tacky. Out of the two, I prefer Janis but that ain't saying much
true, true. and the twinkie thing? well, they're good every once in a while...but they're way too gross to have an obsession with... I don't understand how people think that Janis Joplin is bad...Jefferson Airplane, I see a bit more...but Janis?! She's just...incredible.
