I live in a commune... though how it is I'm sure is different everywhere you go. I love our community, our tribe, and am thankful to be living my dream. :)

    lildreadymama,

If commune living is what you want, then go get to it, nothing stops you! Just remember that communal living takes a willingness to grow, work hard, compromise and cooperate. With those traits, or at least the willingness to learn them, one can fit in nicely in our scene. :)

    Love and Light,

i'm wanting to live in a commune too. I am so peaceful and definately hard working. My problem is money. Most places want money. I will give my amazingly open personality and my effort but i just can't pitch in money I'm so broke:( I have been wanting to live in a commune for the past ten years now. I grew up in a german community in muelhausen and it was set up like a commune. I feel as though there is no alternative life style for me and i have been wanting so bad to go back to just living my type of life. if anyone has any suggestions of a commune looking for a friendly hard working and enthusiastic young woman let me know :)

A lot of place just want people that will contribute to the community..

So many people go to communities and lounge around and use up more resources then they put back.

If you are friendly look hard and are willing to contribute I’m sure you will find places after a bit.

10 years? I think you need to look harder.

I lived in a commune for four years, and 2 years prior to that lived in a housing cooperative. My personal recommendation is do NOT try to move to a commune that has been started by other people. Start your own with people you know.

Why do you recommend starting your own versus moving to one already started? Would like to know your views on this. Just curious.

I never lived in a commune but one time I went to a wedding on one. People were dirty and drunk. I don't doubt they work hard but it was really a mess, not for me!

I've only been to ones here in California. I witnessed no drinking and no drugs. Only a deep interest in healthy food, and healthy activity. I haven't spent long periods of time in any of them though.

    They were dirty???

OMG, how sick is that... people who actually do more in life then hitting keys on a board and walking half a block to the store to buy some red bull, should really have their shit together in better manner then that...

    Ha!

If cleanliness is one of your criteria you had better stay in your nice clean city (lol) then... This doesn't mean people have to be encrusted with dirt and smellable from a mile away, but to expect people who actually get outside into nature and work with it to provide a life for themselves and their family to be concerned about offending others sense of cleanliness is just down right silly....

Me? I would take dirty smelly people who actually DID things over nice clean people any day.

    To the OP;
There are lots around, some online, some not. If you look hard enough you will find one that you fit into. Or if you want to work even harder, do as someone else suggested and start one yourself that follows your idea of what you want.

and here's a hint for you, at least a couple of people who have posted in this thread (and there are many more on hipforums), live the life and welcome anyone who will put in an honest effort.
