Do Christians believe in dinosaurs? There is no mention of them in the Bible, however there is a lot of evidence to say that existed. Surely if people believe that everything existed from the beginning of the bible then nothing more could have existed. So how do you go about explaining science? Or do you just ignore/ disbelieve it happened?
Why do you say there is no mention of them in the bible. When was the term dinosaur originally used? Job 40 15"Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. 16See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles. 17He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. 18His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron. 19He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring near His sword. 20Surely the mountains yield food for him, And all the beasts of the field play there. 21He lies under the lotus trees, In a covert of reeds and marsh. 22The lotus trees cover him with their shade; The willows by the brook surround him. 23Indeed the river may rage, Yet he is not disturbed; He is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth, 24Though he takes it in his eyes, Or one pierces his nose with a snare. Then there is this: LEVIATHAN: Job 41 1 "Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook, Or snare his tongue with a line which you lower? 2Can you put a reed through his nose, Or pierce his jaw with a hook? 3Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak softly to you? 4Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him as a servant forever? 5Will you play with him as with a bird, Or will you leash him for your maidens? 6Will your companions make a banquet of him? Will they apportion him among the merchants? 7Can you fill his skin with harpoons, Or his head with fishing spears? 8Lay your hand on him; Remember the battle-- Never do it again! 9Indeed, any hope of overcoming him is false; Shall one not be overwhelmed at the sight of him? 10No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up. Who then is able to stand against Me? 11Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is Mine. 12"I will not conceal his limbs, His mighty power, or his graceful proportions. 13Who can remove his outer coat? Who can approach him with a double bridle? 14Who can open the doors of his face, With his terrible teeth all around? 15His rows of scales are his pride, Shut up tightly as with a seal; 16One is so near another That no air can come between them; 17They are joined one to another, They stick together and cannot be parted. 18His sneezings flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 19Out of his mouth go burning lights; Sparks of fire shoot out. 20Smoke goes out of his nostrils, As from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21His breath kindles coals, And a flame goes out of his mouth. 22Strength dwells in his neck, And sorrow dances before him. 23The folds of his flesh are joined together; They are firm on him and cannot be moved. 24His heart is as hard as stone, Even as hard as the lower millstone. 25When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid; Because of his crashings they are beside themselves. 26Though the sword reaches him, it cannot avail; Nor does spear, dart, or javelin. 27He regards iron as straw, And bronze as rotten wood. 28The arrow cannot make him flee; Slingstones become like stubble to him. 29Darts are regarded as straw; He laughs at the threat of javelins. 30His undersides are like sharp potsherds; He spreads pointed marks in the mire. 31He makes the deep boil like a pot; He makes the sea like a pot of ointment. 32He leaves a shining wake behind him; One would think the deep had white hair. 33On earth there is nothing like him, Which is made without fear. 34He beholds every high thing; He is king over all the children of pride." The behemoth sounds like brontosaurus and the leviathan is totally Godzilla.
Even most young earth creationists beloieve in donosaurs because they are included in the animals that are created before adam and eve. Not young earthers usually will all agree dinos existed because they either believe in evolution or are old earth creationsists.
It's really quite simple - the people who wrote the OT lived in an age prior to scientific knowledge, so they had no way of knowing anything about life on earth in the remote past. Their supporters today, the Bible literalists, are simply stupid, as shown by the idiot propaganda they put about.
Yes I can understand that, although the bible is the word of god isn't it, so why not mention such a big part of history? Please don't think I am critising, this has been a question I have wanted to ask for sometime.
Behemoth is thought to be a Hippo by many scholars and Leviathan is thought to be a crocodial/alligator. There isn't a shred of evidence other than these two weak mentions in the bible that dinosaurs as we know them existed while man has been on earth. If you read the passages mentioned above, you can see how the stretch of the imagination can lead one to possibly link it to a dinosaur, but it more closely matches that of Hippos and alligators. Do a search on Google for Hippo pics and you can see that in some of the pics, the hippo's tail resembles an upside down Cedar tree. Its bones are thick like Bronze pillars, the narative is not literal, its figurative for reading affect. To think that Dinos and humans co-existed is non-sense and can NOT be backed up with any scientific data.
The reason the prophets didn't mention it is that they knew nothing about it. There are actually many things they knew nothing about. These were quite primitive people. They could only understand God in their own terms, and they could only have a crude understanding of the universe. They had no way of getting knowledge about dinosaurs, bacteria, galaxies, pulsars, quasars, and a huge number of other things. What they expressed of God was according to their own limited mentality and understanding.
http://www.genesispark.org/genpark/bible/bible.htm there is certainly enough evidence both in scripture and from fossils to prove dinosaur existence.
I can see the croc interpretation as leviathan but not so much the hippo as behemoth. While we are talking about dinos check this guy out http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Tuata...=/081031/481/8911912a100d4c539974bd92212a3784
"If the world began with Adam and Eve...", then who did his sons mate with to have more children and continue the human race? I guess that his sons mated with Eve, or with their sisters. Oh, possibly Adam mated with his Daughters. Less deformities occur with the Daddy/Daughter mating combo in the animal kingdom, right? Oh, and Cain was banished to the city after he killed Abel. What city? He was second generation human? A city that consisted of what other people?
some christians believe that god planted dinosaurs in the earth just to see who really believes him because they would know the truth or some bullshit like that.
Yes, Christians believe in dinosaurs. They're not mentioned in the bible because the bible is basically the history of mankind and dinosaurs haven't existed during the history of mankind.
I was once told God put the dinosaurs here to cut back the vegetation for Eden as God was building it.. Like God's lawn mowers.. nom nom nom..
I agree, but I'm still thinking someone back then had to have stumbled upon some fossils, maybe even full, intact skeletons in caves, bogs, dried river beds, etc., and wondered what the hell they were. This might account for all the "behemoth" talk. I wonder if there are any ancient writings, (Greeks, Eastern cultures, Native-American, pre-Bible), that mention strange bones or fossils. It may have been pre-science, but when you look at some of the extremely sophisticated cultures that existed before the OT was written, I can't imagine there wasn't some knowledge of these huge and strange bones of some prehistoric animals.
You may be right - perhaps some of the legends of monsters etc might come from that. Perhaps giants even. Again, there's no way we can really know.
If God made adam and eve then he also already knew adam would eat the apple and didn't do anything about it. But god gave us free will? We have free will, but it's not because of God. Man is free, Man is freedom.
This would only be true if there is no God, because if there is a God, he would have had scientific knowledge and could have passed that knowledge along to his followers.
Why would God have scientific knowledge? As far as Im aware, science is our far from complete study of that which God created, which will hopefully come to understand how God made creation work in full someday. Why would God have an incomplete understanding of His own creation??? And why would God care to give people knowledge of a species that was erased from life before humans ever came about? Seems to me like God had more important revelations to share with us, rather than go into detail about every being which has inhabited this Earth.
because God also learns from the creatures he created. Thats why we have free will.. So God can say, "I wonder what they will do this time." Then when we do something stupid.. He laughs and make a earthquake... I mean seriously.. Chinese people are fucked up, dont you think??
