I go to SUNY New Paltz... we definitely have a presence up here. Not only at the school, but the town as well. We're hella close to Woodstock and the mountains, sustainable farms down the road, and a big emphasis on local products. It's so chill; I love it up here. AND its a really good school.
Yeah, I also go to SUNY New Paltz and enjoy it. Good number of hippies/counterculture, especially compared to high school, but it's still a fairly eclectic assortment of people. I've met a lot of great people here and the location is stunning.
New Paltz is good, I got in there but didn't go. SUNY Purchase is pretty hip as well. If you are looking for a genuinely hippie school, don't go to a Boston-area school or a elite Ivy in New England. Generally they exist in suburbs or rural areas, where students feel a stronger sense of identity and cohesion, and where the Big Brother doesn't actively seek out to bust hippies, for drugs or other reasons.
im not sure if its north enough or not but Warren Wilson looked like an amazing school. its in north carolina which really isnt north at all. i decided to not go there because its pricey but i read on a college website that it has the most ganja smokers per capita than any other school in the u.s. also unity college in maine, much more north
I'm considering UMASS, Hampshire and Unity myself; I'm interested to hear any experiences with those.
