I don't know any punks I have heard they do I am sure other groups do too but there is always good and bad in every group so I am always open-minded to anyone just curious
I think late 70's punks did, but I wasnt there so I dont know, but punk rock basically started as a backlash to all the touchy feely free love and way overly free formed guitar solos of the hippie groups. Hippies pretty much chose to pretend they could change the planet with hugs, punks tried the same with a much more in your face kinda contact. Neither worked, because whether you you are shaved and dyed or knotted and tye dyed, mainstream America/Europe/Asia etc just sees a bum that needs a real haircut and a real job.
I can never understand the lyrics from the song "I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair". Well , all that was much before my time , but punks did NOT put flowers in their hair. Atleast proper ones. Gangs of mainly skins , but also punks would occasionally beat up a hippy. But their targets might be non whites too. Punks and hippies outlooks were VERY different.
kill a hippie kill a nazi kill everyone man if you believe it every lyric that is sang in punk songs, now u are a fucking idiot! its all about individuality, some punks beat hippies, some hippies stench like shit, some nazis hate everything...but there are some punks that don`t really give a shit about hippies and don`t bother beating them, there are some hippies that shower and there are some nazis that dont really hate everything (i know one of those)
I think she means she wants to stradle both camps...embrace the best of both or not be pigeon holed... Say, be patriotic but not nationalistic and champion globalisation while buying locally.
But modern punks cant really be like the old ones. The original ones were very anti-Establishment- and some followed Anarchism and even began to merge with Skinheads. Its mainly that groups of young people in Britain have traditional liked fighting ( whether its football , or Mods vs Rockers , or whatever). And Punk was popular at the time. Punks wanted to fight the system.Hippies was more "peace , love . passive resistance ,and drop out from it".So they saw hippies as an enemy / item of ridicule.
enemy -no, but they though they are dumb nothing-doing fuckers. If you don`t like something u fight against it, u try to change it. And what exactly hippies did against the brain washing system ? Put flowers in they hair ? ahah okey, right on brothers :cheers2:
Hippies actually tended to be more middle class and late 60s early 70s. And more rural. They could live in a wigwam in the country after uni , until they cut their hair and daddy fixed up with a nice job. Whereas punks were more urban , working class , later on.They felt they had real grievances rather than "ideological" ones.Hence their frustrations spilled onto the streets. Generalisation abit here but... Hippies were also considered smelly homosexuals , or women with hair in places it shouldnt be...uke:
I know a guy from Holland, an old punk from the 70's. He said he lived in London during the 70's and used to go round beating up hippies and stealing their weeed/money, and he doesn't feel any remorse for it. He also told me he was banging Malcom McLarren's wife regularly, and he didn't mind because he was busy taking it up the arse from all other other punks. Dunno whether to believe him.
i've known punks and hippies to get along. the smarter punks would probably dislike hippies and other idiots though.
you are so wrong! hippies did lots of meaningful things to fight the system! revolution! like john lennon....he really fought the system. he really showed them by not getting out of bed! boy, i but the establishment just about fell to pieces then!
I asked this guy the other day: "What do you think of ignorance and apathy?" He said, "I don't know, and I don't care."
