Should Hip Forums Have a Scientology Forum?

Several people have asked why we don't have one.

We have a number of reasons. What are yours?

They are here already. If want to give them an Advertizing Platform, go ahead. I doubt they would use it a long as its in a Cult Section, thought.

Yeah they should have a forum, not that i am pro scientologist but why not give people a forum to discuss it? maybe some ex-sci's can give advice to current sci? Although obviously Skip it will mean alot more moderation for the site, much like the Christian forum... although personally i loved watching anti's have a go at the preachers... my internet drama :)

Rename this forum = "Scientology - a place to learn about it"

Well to TBH I would say have a sub foum here with in the Anon board for Scientology

    Anonymous vs Scientology
The group Anonymous is fighting to end the abuses of the Church of Scientology.

    Subforum, Scientology.

    Scientology.
    What is it about?

The ONLY reason they want one is to offer validation of legitimacy. The is NO reason they can't discuss anything here.

(you see how open they are)

I'd say "no" - if you added a Sci forum, they'd consider it an upstat (no matter where it was) and use you to snare more people: "Come join Scientology. As endorsed by the Hip Forums.", "Skip says we're cool.", "Scientology was today honoured by the members of the Hip Forums for their great humanitarian efforts during natural disasters" etc. (FYI: they go in after things like 9/11 and the Boxing Day tsunami and stop people from getting proper grief counseling and aid.)

The PR and spin from the cult is second to none, and it would get twisted to look as if you practically BEGGED them to come on over and help save your ass.

Only difference between putting them in the "cult" section and the "religion/philosophy" section is the amount of bawwwwwing you'd get - and they'd pull loads of new members in here to bitch and moan for as long as it took to get it moved.

Sure, for Anons it probably would be... :) Not too sure what our hosts would think of the increased workload modding a load of scilon trolls, but I'm sure they're more than capable of looking after themselves. ;)

Personally, I'd rather not grant the cult an upstat like that... it's something that they could probably milk at the psychic fairs and so on for a very long time afterwards. Plus I'd expect them go out into the rest of the forum and recruit like mad - if they're not already. That's not to say anyone here would fall for it, but it'd piss me off if I had to put up with that.

LOL! You shoulda been here when Fedup American was in full swing. He kept the Christian forum as lively as this one. He would bait them constantly.

We got lots of fundamentalists in here telling us hippies would rot in hell, etc.

It was quite entertaining for a long time.

But he finally got too nasty and turned on us, so he had to go along with hundreds of anti-christian threads he'd started.

Not that much extra workload. Actually since our last upgrade modding is much more of a breeze. We can ban & delete all a users posts in one stroke. We have around 30 supermods who roam the forums, plus many of our members report shit very quickly.

I doubt that mentioning the HipForums would add any cred to Scientology or help their recruiting efforts.

I mentioned this once before, and I'll bring it up again...

I am willing to act as a mediator between the CoS and anyone else. I have a special diplomat hat I wear for that. Seriously, I can be somewhat impartial and fair should the desire be there to actually try to talk this shit out.

That would be one reason for the Scientology forum. To mediate the issues between you.

I've written Alex and offered to help and even suggest ways that Scientology can change their methods to address the concerns you have.

I know it's probably just wishful thinking to think that a Church can change it's ways, but look at the Catholic Church these days. It's in crisis.

There is much to be gleaned from the lawsuits against the Catholic church & other denominations.

Child abuse lawsuits like those against the Catholic Church, or even that recent one against those polygamist Mormons must give the CoS pause and make them fear a similar strategy.

The time for more transparency and a change in protocols is now for CoS. To delay further will put them even more at odds with the prevailing mindset against child abuse, cults, secrecy, questionable methods and contracts, etc.

I think they can still save their Church if they have the balls to make a few changes. Otherwise a few good class-actions suits could bring them down faster than the WTC.

From my point of view, the more Scilons we have here the better. I do not think it will work cos Scilons are everything but open but like I said. Bring it on.

Edit: All it will do is expose more fail.

Well you might need to deal with them directly over certain issues, including legal ones.

    Think about this...

The greatest failing of the Bush Administration was it's refusal to negotiate with anyone labeled "the enemy". All that does is create a war that never ends. And makes those who refuse to negotiate look like complete failfags.

Ultimately there must be negotiation, even if destruction is the net result.

Oh, and the Bush Admin didn't actually fail by not negotiating. That was their mission, to keep the war alive, JUST FOR THE SAKE OF WAR, because their friends are making so much $$$ from it!

So if some of you only want to fight scientology for the sake of fighting, then I sure hope you're profiting from it, cause otherwise it's a lost cause.

Thus far the votes are for putting a forum in the Cult section, which is the way I'm leaning too. Apparently enough Anonymous can see a good reason to do this.

I'd still like to see the CoS somehow support this forum (HF) if that is going to be the case.

As I said b4 it's better PR for them to show they support free speech in some way, than to just let us bash them without letting them get their say.

I know there will only be a few authorized Scis posting, but as some have said, others might come out of the woodwork. And I've already said to Alex one precondition would be to allow ALL Scientologists to access this site to post there. Otherwise it's just a pure PR channel that I'm sure you guys would troll endlessly.
