Is your dog eating into the wood? How is he getting access to the termites? If they are just walking around out in the open on like your counter top or floor then they are not termites. Termites travel in wood or mud tubes. They can not be exposed to the open air or they will dry out and die.

gotta agree with mothman. termites don't travel out in the open...

if you are treating, try to use boric acid. it is safe for pets and you.

sounds to me like you don't have a dog but, an anteater, and yes, anteaters will eat termites too! well i live in texas and, if you go south of here, in some parts of mexico people do eat termites.
most likely the termite came out of the ground and are safe enough for fido to eat. he might get sick if he pigs out on them though. my dog is a bug eater too. she eats crickets though.

Actually, termites do live out in the open when they swarm which is usually once or twice a year. In this stage of their lives, they experience a metamorphosis, whereby they grow wings and fly off in search a new habitat due to overcrowding of their existing colony. I had a cat once who I caught swatting at them and eating them as they were coming out of an old tree stump on my property and she never had any adverse side effects from the experience.

To answer you question pixiewinged, termites have no toxic self-defense mechanisms in their bodies such as the formic acid used by most ants in the bites. They are completely harmless for your pets to ingest and simply provide a very good source of protein which even we humans can eat should we become lost and hungry in the woods, which is an old boy scout trick I fortunately never had to try out in the field.
