i bought a female german shepherd puppy yesterday. she seems healthy she just cries alot so far. i have done my research but i didn't know they were suppose to stay with mom until at least 6 weeks. she is 5 weeks. she has eaten a little kibble. i softened it with water. i feel like a fool i love her and i want to make her into a wonderful pet but im afriad i may have taken her away to early :( she cries and cries and i feel terrible but i dont want to give in to her squeals t easy, what should i do? does she need formula or is the soggy kibble good enough? is she gonna turn out all wrong? ive wanted a shepherd for years and i dont want to feel like i screwed this up.
    advice please? thanks..

i think you should go to ypur local animal shelter and ask there.

I use to foster animals and i got a 4week old(i believe.. 4 or 5) male german shepard. I had to bottle feed it formula every two hours. He was the cutest dog i had ever seen. Anyhow he did cry a lot. But one day i layed him on my blankets(put his blanket underneath for if he pooped) and he just slept like a baby. And as soon as i would move him back to his bed on the floor he would wake up and start crying again. So maybe the blankets and sleeping next to me made him feel like it was his mother he was next to.

yeah Madchen kept me up all night crying in her crate, i caught a slight nap with her cuddled on the couch with me this morning, i dont want her to sleep in the bed because thats my cat, maliks territory although malik is furious right now and probably wont sleep with me agian for a few weeks, i just dont want to be unfair to my kitty or else id let my puppy sleep in the bed. i plan on calling the vet today once my husband gets home so we can talk about it together but im still kinda worried... ive never had a puppy this young before so im new to it and nervous.

Do you have a mechanical alarm clock? Sometimes it helps to give them something like a mother's heartbeat. Crying is normal. Every puppy i've had has cried at night. Can you get a crate? you can start with the crate in your bedroom, and eventually move it out. A special crate that is a safe zone for your dog can do alot of good.

As for the bed, don't worry about the cat's territory or the dog's territory. It's all YOUR territory, and now that you have a dog it's really important you act that way. That said, letting the dog sleep on the bed is a big commitment. Once you open the can of worms you can't get them all back in.

Is she sucking on your finger? Bottle feeding won't hurt anyone. Just get the calories in. She needs lots of fat and protein.

Mädchen, eh? Kommst du aus Deutschland?

yeah dude i let my dog sleep in the bed when she was a pup cuz she did the same cring thing everynight, and well i don't do crying. so no she still sleeps with me and she's a 45 pound great dane mix. i mean really i'm ok with it because she's got my scent forever, and well she's my baby. so it's all about how you wanna do it.

man your lucky gotta sheppard, i had a sheppard/doberman mix, but she got hit by a car because stupid people don't know how to close a damn gate. she was the best dog i ever had. she wasn't "my dog" she was my husbands. but if i had a choice on another dog it'd be a sheppard wolf, i knew one actually she was awesome.

as for the food, i'd get some baby formula and then put it on top of some puppy food let it soak in, helps with the chewing, and then she if she likes that. maryjohn's right fat and protien real good for pups.

puppies won't poop in the sleeping area unless they are sick.

best thing you can do is get a crate.

couple of good things you can try is the ticking clock and or a hotwater bottle, with the hotwater bottle, use like 2/3 hot and 1/3 cold water and wrap the bottle up an a blanket and let the pup snuggle up with it

Its recommended that you don't take a pup away from there mum, until the pup is 10 week old, pref- 12 weeks, she should be still sucking her mothers milk which provides her with a healthy start in life, the 10-12 week period is also used by the mother to teach the pup.
try what anastasia said, put the clock under her bed, and gl with her.

I give all my pups a stuffed animal to sleep with and that seems to help

That is young. My other dog was 10 weeks when we got him and he cried. I put him in the bed with me and he stopped. Of course he only weighed 29 pounds when he grew up and always slept with me.

Do some research about how mother dogs care for their young. All of the suggestions above are good. You will have to be a surrogate mother.

That's horrible, whoever sold the puppy to you should not have separated it from the mum so early. That's animal abuse. Contact your vet and ask for their advice.

Puppies are supposed to stay with there mother for 8 weeks not 6 weeks. They need those weeks to be a good dog. Otherwise taking them away to young can cause problems.
