Can I just ask, why is breaking up with/being broken up with, via text message or aim, a bad thing. As long as you haven't been dating for more than a few months, seriously where is the harm in "depersonalizing"; therefor sheltering someone from an awkward and more negatively emotional live confrontation?

It's a chickenshit way to go. The other person in the relationship deserves a face to face resolution, which allows for more closure. It's the respectful thing to do. Breaking up via email, IM, or text is not a very mature way to go.

UNLESS - it was an online, long distance, computer/cell phone based relationship. If the contact was mostly impersonal, it might be acceptable to do it electronically.

I still think the right thing to do is to suck it up and do it face to face.

yea the only time i knew of someone actually breaking up with someone via text was in the seventh grade, and even then it wasn't the best way to go in my opinion.

Funny story.. the prime minister of Finland broke up with this woman he had been seeing for like a year by sending her a text message. And then he got pissed off and sued her because she told the story to the press. I mean, what can you expect after acting like a twat like that..
