I love art school. It is actually not that much like school, it's more, FUN! Visual Anthropology happens to meet three req. for me. I decided to take it not only because of that fact, but because it sounded kewl too! The school catolog says . . . 50-3102 Visual Anthropology* Course examines ways in which visual representations are manifestations of cultural values, customs, and actions. By exploring films, photographs, and material arts of a variety of cultures, course encourages discussion of key anthropological theories and concepts. Students will investigate relationships between what is seen and what is known, between sign systems and the communication of meaning, and between societies and their representations of self and other. Readings in anthropological literature on arts and semiotics, films on cultures (their interactions and their objects), and graphic representations from a variety of human societies are included in the coursework.
I'll be starting in grad school in September, uh oh.. My courses for the whole year are: Critical Voices in Development Anthropology of Rights Social Theory of Human Rights and Cosmopolitan Law Anthro and Political Ecology Politics, Identity and Law and I also have to do a work placement in an NGO.
nice...whats your masters gonna be in?...sorry i tried figuring it out via your classes, but I'd rather not assume ya know?
That's cool I'll be doing MA in development and human rights, with anthro focus as I did my BA in anthropology and development.
