Of course they should, and did, desist and apologise once they realised they had caused offence. This doesn't mean they were wrong to do it or that people should not be allowed to risk causing offence...

Sorry but giving an apology is accepting awareness of wrongdoing and asking to be forgiven, or it was when I was a boy.

The problem is that they didn't accept that view at the first opportunity. I don't believe the reactions from some sections of society are against these two gents in particular but rather against the whole abuse is fun culture of certain sections of the media.

Lesson maybe always be ready to apologise.

The entertainment industry is a harsh place at the best of times, I seriously doubt that Andrew was really that upset about what 2 dicks said on the radio given that his grandaughter parades on stage yielding a whip and bondage gear anyway, she does softcore porn as well...........it's a load of bollocks if you ask me!

Not necessarily, it's quite possible to express regret for having caused offence while still believing you've done the right thing. For example it might have been politic for the authors of Jerry Springer the Opera or the Mohammed cartoons to apologise that they caused such offence to so many people, while still defending their right to express their satire of religion, and quite rightly continuing with performance / publication. We can be polite and respectful while still upholding these pivotal principles of free speech...

In this particular case, where an individual was targeted, I think these two would have thought twice if they had known it would cause such offence (the point that may not have caused much offence anyway is moot). In that sense it was a mistake, but I still support their right to have made that mistake, and don't think it was a particularly bad one, coming as it did from a misunderstanding of comic intent on the part of the recipient rather than offensive intent on the part of the performers.

    Absolutely agree with you there.

Lots of things offend me, the Daly Mail slagging off Russell Brand for one, but I don't expect they'll apologise to me or Russell... If l started a media campaign against everyone that's ever offended me, well, it'd get stupid! Elaine at work would take up most of my time for one, the offensive bitch! But I do love her cos she is funny with it :D

What's the difference between what the media have done to Russell and Russell did to Sachs? I'll tell you. The difference is that the Daily Mail has sustained an attack on Russell Brand with the direct purpose of losing him his job and bringing his character and talent into disrepute. Whereas Russell just made a joke that inadvertantly slightly upset a fellow comedic actor. Russel was trying to be funny (and succeded in my eyes), the Daily Mail are just succeding in being witch hunting facists, who's the real villain

By the way, Russell's US tour is going extremely well, so up yours Daily Mail / Sun wankers :D

BTW I missed Jonathan Ross on Friday night. I remember seeing Nirvana for the first time on his show waaaay back... He always supported new bands and new talent, bless him :)

Personally I can't stand the fellow, but now Jeremy Clarkson comes under attack for making a joke...
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/3374093/Jeremy-Clarkson-in-new-BBC-standards-row.html

The Mary Whitehouse brigade is back in force... Some people seem to think they have a right not to be offended. How these people cope with leaving the house, travelling on buses and trains, or walking past a school playground where they will hear much worse than this, I simply have no idea.

Oh come on people, it was two silly boys. There are much worse things happening that people, including the prime minister should be be concerned with.

I sometimes have apologised for causing offence with something I have said, but I haven't apologised for saying it. I also wasn't forced into apologising.

Clarkeson: "What matters to lorry drivers? Murdering prostitutes? Fuel economy? ... This is a hard job, and I'm not just saying this to win favour with lorry drivers. It's a hard job - change gear, change gear, change gear, check your mirrors, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder. That's a lot of effort in a day."

The Road Haulage Association "Road hauliers are having a hard enough time as it is without the kind of ridiculous comments being made... This is an unacceptable ... slur on the character of lorry drivers and the character of the industry, and it is grossly unfair"

Hahaha! Oh bloody hell step off! Those truckers really do take themselves very seriousley don't they

I think the trick is: DO NOT HAVE ANY OPINIONS OR MAKE ANY JOKES FOLKS, we should all be safe then... and also akin to being dead from the neck up.

are people suggesting whatever is said as long as you laugh at the end its acceptable, or does it depend on the delivery ?

What do you think "people" are suggesting? What particular group of "people" are you referring to?

I'd personally suggest that humour is what keeps humans going in life, along with other obvious things such as food etc ;). Life is a wonderous yet challenging journey, at the end of which we die. If we take ourselves too seriousley all the time and can't laugh along the way it'll be a sorry existence for us all. Well, that's my suggestion :)

Nope, I don't think anyone is suggesting, or would suggest something quite as transparently sweeping and thoughtless as that ...

Georgina Baillie (Satanic Slut / Sach's Grandaugter) sticks up for Russ and Ross. I quote:

"I'm feeling a bit gutted really about the whole thing... I think it's way out of proportion what's happened, and I don't hate either of them, I don't at all. I think they're really talented comedians and I think a world without Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand would be a very sad, dull place."

'It's hardly offensive' says Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher about radio debacle

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has said he is "outraged" at the furore surrounding his friend Russell Brand's radio scandal.

Gallagher told BBC Radio Ulster's Across The Line show that he believed that the media furore surrounding the incident was an overreaction, and described the incident as "at worst a juvenile prank".

"I spoke to Russell, he told me he was going to fall on his sword," Gallagher said. "Personally, I'm outraged that, yet again, the joyless fuckers who write the columns in the Daily Mail, The Telegraph or The Observer have dictated the tone and are telling people how to behave.

"I've seen the Daily Mail, they said that Russell should be arrested and charged. Arrested for what? For taking the piss? It's so typical of the English in general. 10,000 people get outraged, but only days after it has happened."

Gallagher added: "At worst it was a juvenile prank that wasn't unfunny but it's hardly offensive. I feel bad for Russ, 'cause he really loved doing the show. I loved being on it as well."

Maybe, I dunno, she's only young bless her...

OK Magazine (forgive me, I'm bored :p):

So, Georgina, Russell's lost his job and Jonathan's is hanging by a thread after the infamous show. Is revenge sweet?

I never wanted revenge and I didn't seek fame. I think Russell and Jonathan are hilarious guys, this has all got way out of hand for everyone. When I said I wanted them to be fired I was really cross. But I think a world without Russell and Jonathan would be a very sad place.

We've also read that you are a £110-an-hour dominatrix - is this true?

There's no doubting that I'm a very sexual naughty girl. But i'm a nice girl as well. Everyone has a past - you do things when you're young which you grow up to regret, but I don't regret exploring, experimenting and being myself.

Did you ever have sex for money?

Never in my life. I've done some dominatrix work and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

So long as nobody gets hurt?

[Laughs] It's a really non-sexual experience. It's a job. I had latex gloves on all the time. I never touched anyone's skin and I never went near anyone's private parts. It's disgusting to me that the newspapers say they're defending my grandad and then print all this stuff about me.

But how did a nice middle-class girl like you get into all this?

When I was 20 I wanted to live on my own and be independent, but the bills were mounting. I'd had people approach me about topless work, which turned into bottomless work, which turned into: "we'll give you more money if you do more next time." It's really tempting when you've got bailiffs at the door. You have an easy way of making £400 and you take it because that's a month's rent.

People will say you should have got a proper job ...

In this day and age, for a girl to live completely independently she has to earn a middle-class professional salary, not a secretail one.

You live with your mum now. Did she know about all this stuff before she read it in the newspapers?

I wrote her a note last night before I went to sleep because I had heard this was going to surface. I said: "Look, a couple of things are going to come out in the wash and I#m really sorry but it was a long time ago and I hope it doesn't change your opinion of me." She's really, really disappointed and I'm sure my grandad is devestated.

Is there anything else you want to tell us?

I'm just so scared it's going to come out anyway, so I would rather say it in my own words. I was living in a flat with two other girls from the troupe and it was like party central. I was experimenting with drugs - I wasn't a junkie, we tried coke and Ectasy pills. things got out of hand. We'd party through the night and the next morning I would pick up a cider or something gross like that and go off to my modelling gig - and I mean modelling in speech marks - and it just escalated, the drugs became more important, the modelling more explicit.

    How bad were the pictures?

I've done nude and a tiny bit of adult. I want to be honest about it. One day I woke up and just looked around my trashed apartment and saw all the wasters and freeloaders that were around, and all the empty wraps off cocaine and the empty cans and bottles and thought, I'm worth more than this. I just took my stuff and got out of there. I'd scared away my room-mate because I was such a mess.
There was vomit on the floor of my bedroom. I went into my living room and our pole-dance pole had collapsed. I was like, oh my god, this is my house, and then I looked down at my emaciated body and I was like, this is my body.

Were you becoming addicted the drink and drugs?

Yeah, absolutely. I had a cage-dancing job at a rock club in Camden. Some of the girls would say: "Shall we have a line of coke?" between dances. And then it got to the point where I felt like I couldn't do it unless I'd snorted a line. I'd have more and more, and then when I couldn't afford cocaine so I switched to Ectasy.

You have a boyfriend now, Zodiac Mindwarp drummer Bruno Agra...

He has been amazing. He said: "Don't worry, everybody has a past, everybody goes through that period of their lives, it just sucks that you've got pictures of yours and people are putting them in the papers.

Does he want to knock Russell's block off?

At first he was like: "What a bastard," but now he feels the same as me. Russell has given me this awesome opportunity to push my career as a burlesque dancer in the Satantic Sluts. And Bruno is a better man than Russell.
