    Hi

My friend has installed Vista business and didnt activate it. 30 days has now elapsed but he cant find his activation key so now he cant even get into Vista.

So... any links to where he may be able to find something to get around this small problem?? I'm not even sure if he can get into windows in safe mode (i know you could on xp if you hadnt activated it thus allowing you to try and circumvent activation).

He cant phone MS because he doesnt want to.

PS any do good'ers saying blah piracy blah go float a boat ok :p

done a bit of digging think ive found a way...

basically the only the thing vista will let you do is activate it once the 30days are up, you can activate by telephone or via the net and the latter is the possible loophole...

basically net activation lets you use internet explorer and you can use IE to access files on the pc by typing their path into the address bar....

so hopefully i can access the necessary files i need to mess with by doing this.

yeh just type in c:\windows in the address bar in IE and you can browse your hard drive!

if you do this go to the windows folder and start regedit, browse to a key called SkipRearm in HKLM\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SL and set it to 1 (it's 0 by default), restart the pc get into the browser again and start a run prompt and enter slmgr -rearm. This resets your 30 day counter to 0!!! but it's not a permie fix im looking for something to get rid of the counter alltogether...

why not pay for vista or switch to linux either way stops you from being percieved by others (not by me, of course) as another pirate looking to rob hard working programmers

Home users don't install windows corporate edition unless they're up to something :)

So either you're already ok with pirating it, in which you should just employ those same methods to get a key, or a copy that doesn't require activation (who seeds a copy that needs to be activated?)

Or maybe it's a real corporate copy from your employer, sure, that happens sometimes..... Get a key from them, and have them activate it after a re-install.

Or switch to linux. I recommend Ubuntu, it's easy to use, and designed for someone who was used to a microsoft world.
