please state your opinion about counseling, treatment etc. Do you think its any good? I for one think its bullshit.
You have to understand that mental health science is still a young science. You can't dissect the mind like you can the body. Some people you can't help, but most people will see some improvements in their life with the RIGHT treatment. You have to keep trying things until something works. x
If you think its bullshit and your currently undergoing it Your the one making it bullshit I however attended counseling and did the same thing It wasnt until after the counseling that I saw how useful it was
Ive started the counseling thing for a few months now, and i dont really see how its helping me, she usually works with children, and only has a few adults, so i think that she isnt going into it in a more complex way. just that i think i need a different person, maybe someone to connect better with me. *shrug* but meds help me, i dont take very much, just a few klonopins when i need them, but i hate having to see the doc every few months to be able to keep getting the scripts. she always tries to put me on more stuff, and throwing out free-bies.
Having some place to just talk about all the shit the bugs you and the stuff that makes you feel good is therapy. Having a licenced counsoler sort out some things is better.. What do you want to get from treatment? Most people dont have a answer for that. You should engage yourself in treatment to the better yourself. Ask questions about why you feel certain ways. Why are you pissed off and what can you do for yourself so not be pissed off. Do you think you have the tools to deal with Depression yourselfs. Do you know why your depressed? Maybe cause you dont want to go to treatment and discuss what bothers you, and makes you sad. Maybe your a drug user that makes excuses for your depression and everything else... Just go to treatment to get out of the house for a hour.. Geeze is it that hard to just tell a total stranger what the fuck your problem is... Thats what they get paid to do.. LISTEN TO YOU BITCH AND MOAN. This might be the only(therapist) person that will give a shit and give you POSITVE feedback. Someone that will finally listen to you and not tell you to shut the fuck up!! And no there isnt much they can do sometimes to help you.. If your telling them that some neighboors dog keeps getting in your trash, it makes you mad, upset, depressed.. They are not going to kill the dog for you.. Nor will they tell you how to kill the dog. but maybe tell you how you can use your mind power to kill the dog (ignore it) talk to the neighbor, call animal control. They will give you some tools to use. Thats Therapy.. How you use it is up to you... Drugs do help, but if your using this to get only drugs. You are not really helping yourself much..
I did family therapy for a while, but my family is completely fucked so I'm not sure what the point was. I'm supposed to start substance abuse counseling in a couple weeks. I guess i just think that if people need to talk to someone then they can talk to friends instead of paying someone because they have a degree.
Your friends can help you. But as for your family. You should know your not able to change them. You have to change yourself. In time you will see your separate from them. Its possible that their dysfunctional behavior is the problem and not you. I dont know you, Im just throwing this out there.. If your age is correct then maybe you need to distance yourself from them.. If you begin to change your life for you and only you then you shouldnt have problems any more. Seek Social/Public Assistance and housing and part time employment. Focus on you, your little job and small goals for now. Build them to bigger things.. As for the drugs.. For each $20 you spend on drugs per say you can buy something else you need for survival. Save your drug money to prepare to move while your in treatment. And maybe in the not to distant future you can have a place of your own and enjoy recreational use, and manage your priorities..
It's no surprise you're so negative about it considering that this is not your choice. A therapist does not talk with you as a "friend" btw. It's a very different dynamic.
This is not true. Ive been friends with many therapist. Some who actually looked forward to having a session. If you have a good relationship with them, not only do you learn alot about yourself, you may also help the therapist learn something about themselves. You may also be helping a group as whole with your feedback in other sessions The same is true of other support groups that are not run by professionals Such as AA/NA. PTSD, Weight Loss ect meetings. Often times your Professional therapist will tell you to find a support group.
