Yesterday I picked up a Kaos bong at my local head shop, I've been wanting a bong for a while, I've owned chillums, bowls, a minibong, and a steam roller but this is my first bong. I'm starting to like it a lot already, gives really big clean hits for the price. It ran me around $40 with tax so I feel it was definitely worth it. 18 inches tall.

I was looking to invest a little bit more money into her and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to what is best worth the investment. At my local head shop I could buy an ice catch add on for around $30, not really sure if that is a good deal or not, but it is around 6 inches of glass with a connecting piece on it. Alternatively, I could probably pick up an ash catcher for around $40.

It came with a standard cone slide which for now I have no intention of replacing unless I can find a nice slide for cheap.

Looking at the bong and the prices for these item do any of you think an ice catch or an ash catcher are worth the money. Do they give significantly cleaner hits? (I've never smoked out of a double filtered bong or a bong with an ice catch so I don't really know)

Ice catchers are over-rated in my opinion.

Unhealthy, too, because they can cause pneumonia.

I would get an ashcatcher for it.

    Is it glass on glass?

    Oh really.

The ice can get so cold that it sublimates (turns directly to vapor)

That is very unhealthy when it enters your lungs, as it can get infected, causing pneumonia.

Tell that to my friend who got pneumonia from taking too many ice hits.

unless there is bacteria already present in the water.. then getting pneumonia is not likely... sure vapor in your lungs is not good.. but that vapor is also inhaled with just normal bong water.. water is water.. whether its frozen or liquid

I've seen the water vapor sublimating off the ice in my bong.

That goes directly into your lungs.

I never said they can directly give you pneumonia, but that they can contribute to it.

Where do you think the fluid that gets infected in your lungs comes from?...

The fluid in your lungs is mucus not water vapor and it is forms of bacteria that cause pneumonia.

Where does the water come from that forms the fluid in the mucus then?

That doesn't necessarily explain how, or why, there is fluid buildup in the lungs.

fluid builds up in the lungs from all different diseases.. fluid buildup is caused by pneumonia.. which is an infection in the lungs.. infections cannot be created without bacteria.. so unless you're smoking a ice bong that hasnt had its water changed in some time and organic material was able to decay and create bacteria.. then there is no way you're gonna catch pneumonia from a bong.. the ice has no effect except for cooling the smoke itself

I agree with 1 to a certain extent. How does 2 make sense? The shape of a bong and all its components will affect that.

Introducing cold vapor isn't exactly good for your body, but your probably more likely to get pneumonia from going out to get your mail with wet hair than from taking hits from a bong with ice. When they talk about those kinds of dangers I think they're mostly refering to things that can generally weaken your body and immune system.
