Sorry if I offended anyone, but I tend to lose all concepts of civility when people speak of things like this. Every post and thread of this nature makes me feel that much more alienated from most people, and I like to think of drug users as the last sanction of those who see through the drivel fed to us from major religions, new-age crystal mythology, and muddled thinking that in the past has led to such fabulous things as witch hunts, human sacrifice, slavery, rape, and genocide. Sorry Relayer, i specifically chose "Allah" instead of "God" because I have never seen anyone post in these areas who made me think they were muslim, I didn't know you were! I do love me some Sufi poetry but this is all still "religulosity" to me. People always give me the same reply, "what makes you such an expert", and yet they go right back to discussing cosmic entities and accessible manifold dimensions and higher realities as though those are simple given facts of life. I am no more expert in the matter than you, and that is somewhat my point. Why speak of such convuluted, unprovable, mythically-tainted things as though they were plain fact deserving of no critical thought? And I'm not talking about the thought process that goes "So are we made of pure energy or are we the dream of a cosmic dandelion?", I'm talking about real, hard, straight-through-the-BS thinking, "Is this something I can say is a good description of reality, one I would want taught in classrooms, something I would want money spent on studying if possible".
It's all good friend, I just try and moderate the peace here I respect everyone's opinions equally because the true Way is beyond opinion and is unspeakable
Yea! Exactly! See I was raised half by family who is non religiou, and the other half muslim. The Qur'an is my main book, though I realize most people on the forums will not share my sentiments. It depends on translation and your open mindedness but whatever thats besides the point. I notice that you mention Sufism, which is a branch that I find more poetic and proper than any other religion. However Islam to me is not about fear, I dont swallow every word that a culture changes in a book concerning the Prophet who was truly open to perfect awareness, in my opinion. I dont think this is the thread to get into my reasons why I believe that, because its entirely off topic. I just wanted to point out that not once does the Qur'an give any attributes to God outside of the realm of the humans connection to Allah. Other than that, Allah is genderless, formless, the Way, the love, the light, the creator and bringer of the blessing of life. It's up to us to interpret as we will, but just because someone is in love with Allah, does not mean he believes in some sky daddy who shoots lightning bolts at people and wants the Jews punished. It's just one more approach to the intangible, transcendental spring of creation.
A few years ago I was extremely interested in religions and very passionate about wanting to learn about them. Specifically I was drawn to understanding Islam and Buddhism (Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, and others were ruled out quite quickly for their "arbitrariness" in my eyes). I know what you mean about the Qu'ran not categorizing Allah, which is one aspect of the religion that always made me respect it from the get-go. That's how I came across Sufism, the writings of Rumi and such things, which I still read occasionally to this day. Always good for a genuine smile. On the other hand was my research into Buddhism, which is how I came across Zen. I will still to this day tell certain people that my religion is Zen, though I quickly point out I don't really consider it a religion, and most zen buddhists don't, but rather a philosophy, way of life, or mode of thinking. Most people I don't share that with because they simply don't know what that is, it's quite hilarious the notions some people have about Buddhism in general. One christian once quickly berated me with "Well, did the Buddha DIE for you? Becuase MY god did!" Where to begin? Oh hey, I agree with you about not derailing this into a huge religion debate, but one quick question if I may: What are your opinions on drug use and islam?
Well, I think for the masses, they are total opposite attractions. Drugs calm people who worry too much, and Islam calms people who are the down trodden and broken hearted. But for me, they both go hand in hand lol. The infinite paradox just keeps on growing But Zen mind is surely beginners mind, and beginners minds are never wrong because they never claim to be right! God bless
not coming back is more common with LSD than with mushrooms, but the possibility is still there. it's all dependent on dose and individual mental state.
If you step outside your house there's a chance you could get hit by a truck, fall off a cliff, get stung by killer bees or get struck by lightning. that's no reason not to go outside and get a nice deep breath of fresh air.
you have alot better chance of becoming really strange than you do of not coming back psychedelics alter personality once a trip has ended, you could become a completely different person for the better...or for the worse
