Hello all. I’ve wanted to take a trip out to southern California, probably LA area, for years now. Unfortunately time and money always seem to get in the way. I’m on a tight budget, so hotel rooms seem out of the question, especially in that town. What I would like to do is camp on or near the beach. So here is my plan. Crystal Cove State Park, near Newport Beach, apparently has natural camping about 3 miles inland. It is very basic, you even have to pack in you own water on foot, but also cheap, like $15/night. I did label this as an adventure didn’t I? I would primarily be interested in just hanging out at the beach, although a trip into town to see the sights may be in order as well. And of course, I plan to spend the entire vacation barefoot! I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in joining me on such a trip. I’m 23, gay, and live in Phoenix AZ. I’m also interested in any suggestions from people who may know the area better then I do. This trip would probably take place next spring. Doug Here is the Crystal Cove State Park website: http://www.crystalcovestatepark.com/
Barefooted vacations are great ! Always an adventure, Newport Beach is very nice. The link to Crystal cove didn't open, no big deal, You're sure to find many great places on the trip from Phoenix to So Cal. Some places can be very foggy in the springtime and a little cold and damp.
I was able to open the website link without any problem. I've never been down to Crystal Cove, but I understand it's nice. Just a word of caution regarding the springtime weather here in SoCal: it can still be on the cool side (compared to Phoenix), so be sure to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Also, don't EVEN think of going into the ocean. You will FREEZE ---I'm serious! Since you'll be at or near the beach, any of the area businesses over there should be barefoot friendly. Sorry I won't be able to join you, but I hope you have an enjoyable stay while you're here! Feel free to ask any questions. I'm sure I'm not the only SoCal resident in this forum.
Compared with what spring is like where I live, I'd say this sounds pretty nice! But yeah there's always a difference between the feel of spring air, and getting into the water. Anywhere.
So. Cal has a lot of nice camping site. Many along coast. There are also lots of good sites in the local mountains. And, no one will care if you are barefoot. <(^o^)>
