Really, the most obvious reason why most people nowadays eat animal flesh is of course because it's more convenient then ever. That's also why some people don't even know a hamburger is a piece of cow. It's been cut in a round piece, conserved and processed to the store. You don't have to slaughter anything, it is easier then ever. The answer's that simple. The hunter/gather principle is further off then ever, in my opinion. Lots of women eat just as much meat as men.
Ok, first of all....it was a joke(mostly) I am aware that many animals are herbivores considering I have raised quite a few in my day. As I already said in a previous post, I think it's really sad that vegetarians believe they are superior to meat eaters and have a holier than thou attitude about it. I have no hate for anyone or their choices, what bothers me is the quick judgment on who I am and what I stand for because of what I eat...how trivial. I don't want to judge you for your choices, nor do I want to be judged for mine, and I choose to eat meat because I enjoy it- point blank. These are free speech forums, and all of us should be able to state our opinions without being told by anyone that we should leave a particular area for disagreeing with another's point of view, that is freakin ridiculous....
This is hardly constructive. It's not necessarily wrong for you to believe this but such negative characterizations do nothing to further your point of view and just fuels the dislike and prejudice that some may hold against vegetarians and vegans. I eat meat but am in a continual process of re-evaluating what I put in my body. I'd greatly prefer to think I can make my choices based on rational decisions and not brow beaten by divisive and negative rhetoric by some folks who seem bent on demonstrating little beyond their presumed superiority.
Some people here just don't understand meat, its DELISIOUS. Its not a caveman thing, it tastes really good.
I eat because its yummy. and because I need it. i tried non meats for awhile, my body just couldnt take it, i started getting dizzy and passing out during the days so i ate turkey, ham... again and went back to normal. My sister is a non meat eater and she went psycho over the carbs and fat that are in some foods. my family got pissed cause its not like we eat it every single day. I mean once in a great while we have steak or chicken. but we usually eat pasta with pieces of meat. I stopped eating beef though. just the sight of hamburgers makes me gag. i dont know why.
Mabey it's your subconcious mind warning you of all the possible fillers & or contaminants which might have found their way into the grinders in the name of corporate profit or underpaid workers being frustrated with their job's & employers? I mean we've all heard the stories of what some kitchen staff will do to the soup if they're not happy with their employers. Stick to steaks, better yet, buy large roasts and slice them yourself using safe handling practices so at least you know no ones been scratching their ass before handling it and selling it to you. Another idea would be to get a grinder and make your own hamburger from the same roast. Better cut's of meat, no fillers or added water to help tip the butchers scale in his favor. :cheers2:
Maybe Im wrong , but I think that people get the Idea its ok because the Bible says that God placed the animals here for man to use. Thats my take on it anyway. I choose not to eat meat , but I support those in my house that enjoy meat by cooking it for them , they are free to decide for themselves , and it is such a habit for them that I really dont think they could get used to going without it.
Leonard Shlain has an interesting book called Sex, Time and Power that touched on women being the reason for hunting, trading iron lost through menstruation, for sex. Not sure I agree with that, or think that because we did X then we should do it now. here's the marketing blurb... but it is pretty good: http://www.sextimepower.com/
people eat animals because it's another source of food. There's no other explanation. Just like how people eat plants. There living too aren't they? It's how we survive. Sure sometimes we overdo it which isn't right but it's just natural for animals to eat other animals.
A lot of people eat animals because it is much less destructive on the environment then tearing up the earth and continually raping it by farming. Most ranchers try to rotate stock so land has a chance to recover and stay in a some what natural state, as opposed to farming when every thing is cut down, up rooted, killed and destroyed, then you have to divert water and well it starts a chain of very sad destructive events. :-( Also the amount of oil a vegetarian diet uses is just so Destructive… All the fruits and veggies from all corners of the world that have to be shipped to your favorite corporate health food store, Makes me sad. Why do people eat meat? Because we love the earth and it tastes great.
Uhm, farmers have also been rotating crops for recovering purposes of the soil on pieces of lands, already since the dark ages.
They were eating meat thousands of years before they had farms too. I like eating meat. But I have gone vegetarian for several years and come back, and gone and come back... Never did try to be vegan, I dont think I agree with it. But to each their own. I don't think one way is better than the other... I have a veggie roommate who orders organics from a company.. I'm sure that has more of a carbon footprint than the local grown veggies I have, some of which are organic. I would love to get meat from a local place too, that would be even better... less processing...
WHAT a stupid bloody thing to even consider typing. Personally, I love the taste; and it's filling food too. Plus, looking at other life systems on earth; I'd say it's nature.
In old days some cultures did believe that though. Of course it isn't the main reason for meat consumption nowadays.
Rotating crops helps the soil take a break but it is still raped lifeless land no trees or animals can live there.
I know, I know; But the OP wasn't talking about meat consumption in the old days. 'Why do people eat meat?' is present tense.
