Anyone in UK see "Elephants of the Samburu" on Tues (BBC2) with barefoot presenter Saba Douglas-Hamilton? The elephants are fascinating in themselves, but Saba is the icing on the cake. This week there was a great shot of her foot on the throttle pedal of the Land Rover. This is actually a repeated series and if my memory is right, in the next episode she runs around barefoot trying to catch an elephant and at one point stops to comment that she is getting things in her feet. A fascinating programme in itself, but with added interest for us barefoot fans!
This is the elephant clip you're on about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SpSMiPfwdU She's commented before that she's barefoot most of the time because that's how she grew up & doesn't think anything of it. Very cool. Saba is single-handedly promoting the barefoot lifestyle to a massive audience in the most positive way. I hope that she enjoys the greatest of success, as the more her programs are promoted, the more a positive, progressive image of barefooting will come into the public mind.
Take a look at: http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/celebrity/article3386744.ece & http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/wildkingdom/lioness/expert/expert8.html I love her answer to the barefoot question in the second link - 'There's not much point in wearing shoes in Africa, unless there are thorns', & we know from the video evidence she doesn't even always bother then either. I'm very jealous.
And she started her barefooting early, too... as you can see here, where she's feeding a relative of Pumbaa... And she's still keeping them bare: ~*Ganesha*~
