I just started getting into phish a few weeks ago after buying the walnut creek dvd, and i have to say i dont know how i never found out about these guys before. Im really into them just jamming, and trey tearing it up on the guitar with those crazy solos. which leads to my question, what is a good live album by phish where they have alot of improvisational moments, and just go off with their instruments?
well you have a lot to choose from. since you are new to it all, i always recommend the live compilation album "Alive One"...this album has everything from the 2 minute "bouncin" to the 30+ minute monster "Tweezer"... get it, you will love it. also they have an entire live series called "Live Phish" 20 or so releases, every single one of them is good. also go to www.nugs.net find the free stash and download the whole 1998 summer tour for FREE! the tour is insane!! one of my all time favorites...
My favorite live phish album is the Colorado '88 album. Its 3 disks of phish in their early days. There is a lot of improv on the 3 disks, but also a bunch of crowd interaction and storyline that i really enjoy. I don't know if your into your local jamband scene, but this album is the equivalent of seeing your favorite local band. I feel i know phish a lot better after listening to it. I suggest getting as much live phish as you can.
