this is kinda off topic but i think some of you might appreciate it so i'm putting it here. there was a role playing game for the super nintendo years ago called Earthbound..and i played this game long before i ever met our dear friend...and even then it was pretty trippy. the music was a little strange and off...there was cool fractal-like backgrounds..and the game had some really cool themes like unity amongst all creatures on the planet...love...family..otherspaces...extraterrestrial beings. it was a wonderful game and it's etched in my memory forever.

12 years later they made a sequel to it...Mother 3 (Mother being the name of the game in japan)...but they never brought it to america. after a long wait..a team has finally translated the game to english. the translation is freely available..but you have to obtain your own copy of the rom..however you see fit. here's the url:

earthbound was a sequel also but it was the first one i played..so don't flame me for not mentioning that : )

That's awesome. I've heard good things about the Mother series but I've never played any of them. I might have to check them out via ROMs. I was a big Final Fantasy guy back in the day. I think Final Fantasy 7 has some wonderful spiritual themes - the Lifestream, the soul of the planet, etc. :)

I never played the games, but was introduced to gaian theory through the FF movie. Is the concept of gaia pretty much the same as lifestream from the game?

    Yeah it's pretty close. :)

FF7 has some incredible music... I still listen to it from time to time.

mother 3 has been a lot of fun so far. the first real conflict introduced is the learning of money...or the idea of giving something worthless a value in order to create desire and power..kinda vague there i know. the town mentions it needs no sheriff because there's no crime. some paths you take ask you to stop going that way so you won't step on some ants on accident and kill them.

Earthbound (Mother 2) was one of my favorite all time RPG's, but I never beat it. The second half of the game was really frustrating, I got to the stonehenge dungeon where the Starmen patrolling there were each a match for my entire party (every battle against that zone's basic minion was life or death for my group) and I'd run out of PSI and healing items early on each attempt. I just hadn't leveled my guys up enough, and after a few days of trying to do so, it was time to give the game back to my friend anyway.

I've played it on ROMs since then, but it just wasn't the same. Recently I had the opportunity to play it on a friends SNES but I didn't make it very far.

I want my own SNES and an Earthbound cartridge!
