we just found out that the apartments we are living in are going to be put up for sale. nobody fucks you over like family, right? so now im trying to find, pack, donate, and otherwise prepare for another move. every time we've moved its been chaotic, took too long, etc, and im wanting very much to avoid that. if anyone has an opinion on u-haul, or pods, please share it. argh. i hate moving.
I moved from Montana to Georgia with only what I could fit in my Ford Taurus for the 2,154 mile move. We gave away and sold a house full of stuff, now we have only what's needed to physically survive - no TV, no couch, no table, just 2 chairs, some of our clothes, our lap tops and some boxes. Leaving all of your worldly possessions behind is very liberating, I highly recommend it. I've moved all sorts of ways, and that was the best. If it's all just a bunch of stuff, is it worth the stress of carrying it with you. Sure, if you're moving across town, but not if you're trying to move across the continent like I did.
yup.. about 80% of the shit you own.. you don't NEED.. one of my moves consisted of whatever i could fit in a military duffel bag and jumped on the amtrak
i used a uhaul (i don't know what pods is) i don't have that much stuff, but i need some furniture, a bed, my bike... wasn't cross country, like a 2 hour drive. it cost like $240 bucks i think. kinda expensive.
^^^ furniture can be found.. no need to take it with you.. people are always leavin their furniture behind
we are a family that is very attached to our stuff. i do plan on getting rid of a lot, but we finally have good furniture, and i can't sacrifice it. we have a 2 y/o, so less stress is best, and it will likely be an across town sort of move. as few trips as possible. the last couple of times we moved, we had "boxes of stuff to go through later" and we've just been moving those boxes around. im just so daunted! we have 2 adult packrats worth of stuff to go through, and a limited amount of time. crappity crap crap. we don't even know where to start.
pods seems like a better idea to me, but i have to say that i feel for you, i HATE moving, i am a champ at it, my family has moved a hell of alot
ok, so a realtor showed up 2 days ago, no warning, asking for keys etc so we think crap. time to get a move on. then today, just now even, i get a call from the family in question. we were led to believe we might get to stay here and manage the place. WRONG! apparently it will sell fast. you know, like, promptly. we need to sort, pack, and move ASAP. i hate this crap. really hate. even loathe. it makes me sick.
its being rented to us for $400-500 a month, but its 2 bedrooms. whoever the new owner is will up it, likely to about $700-800. the only reason we can afford to live on our own right now is because of the price. we now have to look at 1 bedroom apartments that are less than $600 a month, and thats not exactly a long list of options. plus, most of those options are infested with bugs, from what i've seen. i have reached a new level of stress. i call it Monstress. i cant believe hubby's family, its like they were raised on another planet. his grandfather is the best of the bunch, but everyone else is: an addict, a criminal, a bible nut, a smoker on oxygen, a greedy embezzler, a jealous cousin or a suppressed woman who is abrupt and has no clue. and to top it all off, no weed until later this week. and i've been smoking resin to conserve green all of this past week. and i need to make doctors appointments that i should have been to last month. and i need a new appointment so they can put me on a holter monitor, for at least 24 hours, and i'll have to keep a log. 0830 woke up, made glorious coffee, took meds. 0900 thought depressing thoughts. 1000 designed a spaceship its just not my fucking year! Monstress!
Are you on a extended term lease or is this a special scenario under the table since you are getting a deal? If its a lease depending on the contract you MIGHT have a way to buy some time at your current rate. best option for a move for you? TheShow and his friends love to get wasted. We can get a couple of pickups and help out on a saturday for sure. all for just some booze. We are just down the road from you anyways but seriously if you need some man power (my role is delegation buut i''ve got the men with the power) lemme know
start boxing shit up best you can now when it comes to moving day.. rent a truck.. you said it was a local move so there's ryder and a bunch others too make it a one day thing with the truck... you'll be fine
