i live in NY and recently bought an RV i want to go someplace warm for the winter.i want to go down south but not sure what state would be the best for what i want.I'm looking for some place rural i have 2 big dogs i really don't want to stay on a campground (i value my privacy} i d like to park in the middle of nowhere. i was thinking a national park or some other kind of public land.any advice would be appreciated.
If Georgia is far South enough for you, the Stone Mountain state park area is georgeous. (At least it was in 98' when I was there.)
can you legally park an RV there for free?again i'm looking for the most desolate place possible that i can get to with a 30' RV.
Ya know I'm not sure but I'd bet the Georgia Dept. of Forestry or State Parks could give you more info on the subject, perhaps even suggest a better area than Stone Mountain as it is "touristy" for the most part thou has a huge attached forest. Heck, even the city of Atlanta has more trees in it than most Forest preserves did back up in Illinois, almost ended up moving there some years back but stuck around Chicago for unknown reasons...
they have changed the laws. its nearly impossible to winter in ocala now.. they have closed most hunt camps through the winter, stopped issuing long term camping permit, beefed up law enforcement as well as a couple other things that slip my mind.. the bottom line is ya cant do it anymore..
Well that suxs. When I lived in Umatilla I preferred camping at Blue Sink in Astor rather than in the bunkhouse that was provided. It was only a 10 minute drive to work, with an extra 10 minutes to jump in the sink to rinse off and then break camp. So what, now you have to rent tent sites at Juniper Springs? Great...
ocala sounds nice but might be alittle touristy plus im not sure if ill be able to stay there long. mexicos alittle to far i know my best bet would be to go out west but with the price of gas and the fact that i have a 78 south wind i dont think i can make it. im just trying to find a desilite spot i can park for a couple of months within 300 miles
from the bronx.. North or South carolina can be fun for a short distance.. there are tons of great camping all over the place though.. Ohio even has some great camping.. best way to find one you would like, is search in google for camping in a specific state, and most camp grounds, have pictures of the camp basics, and the grounds.. also, national parks can be great to camp in.. very large, desolate area's.
hmm ... i've done a bunch of that kind of free living . me squatting free in a hippie bus is rather like hiding the elephant in the strawberry patch - paint it's toes red . that kind of magic works best . think free to live free . actually , in freely thinking you might go north for the winter . sometimes obtusely i do that . i got a woodstove and know where the friendly coffeeshop is . any which way , it's by wit you survive . free-camping public land in the east could be ArmyCorp of Engineer land . this would be some sort of project site - like at a dam . sometimes there is no length of stay limit . or it might be rural state/county land set aside for hunting or a fishing access that is relatively ignored . expect some sort of local contact though and be polite , do no harm , don't be scary . any which way , it's by love you survive . this land is my land . welcome home .
upstate SC has waterfalls and mountains if your looking for scenery. Be mindful of copperheads though we seem to be loaded with them, but that's the south.
yeah from the Bronx work in manhattan and i am so sick of the city life..sick of people that's why i bought this RV I'm giving up the apartment, the big screen TV all the material bullshit they tell you that you need.I'm finding the hardest part is where to park/setup.
